What enrages me about the Centre for Parenting Studies is that we don’t have anything like it in the United States! Over the years I have learned so much from the Centre, but especially:

  1. It is crippling, not compassionate, to think of children ONLY in terms of their vulnerability. Yes, it is good to be kind. But no, it is not good to treat kids as if they are in constant physical, emotional or psychological danger.
  2. Nor does it make sense to instruct parents on precisely how to interact with their kids, as if there’s a formula for programming the perfect child. What an insult to the parent/child relationship.

Thank goodness for the Centre’s trust in the human species, including its young!
