The academic year 2020-21 marks 10 years of the Centre for Parenting Culture Studies
The idea for a Centre for Parenting Culture Studies was first discussed back in 2007, at an international conference held in Darwin College at the University of Kent. Called ‘Monitoring Parents: Childrearing in the Age of Intensive Parenting’ that event, as the Call for Papers explained it, aimed to provide ‘the opportunity for discussion of empirical and theoretical work that explores contemporary parenting culture’ and one its aims was the ‘development of a network of researchers with an interest in parenting culture’. (There’s film of CPCS’ Director Ellie Lee opening the event and talking about its aims here). The event turned out to be a big success, exceeding all our expectations and it was clear from it that there was a demand for a network of this sort.
