Canterbury car park disruptions week commencing 26 June 2017

24- 30 June- Giles Lane road 3 way traffic lights- UPP

There will be three-way traffic lights on the roundabout between Woolf and Darwin on Giles Lane for approximately 7 days. This is to assist UPP with the foul water pumping station project. The traffic lights will be removed in time for the July Open Day.

25 June- Sports Centre pay and display car park

The Sports Centre pay and display car park will be closed to assist with the setting up for the CUBO conference, hosted by Kent Hospitality. The car park will be reopened by Monday morning.

25-29 June- Sports Centre blue zone car park

The Sports Centre blue zone car park will be closed for exhibitors at the CUBO conference being hosted by Kent Hospitality. This is approximately 50 bays. Please remove your vehicle from the Sports Centre blue zone car park by 22.00 Friday 23 June. The car park will be reopened Friday 30 June.

2-3 July- Pavilion car park

The Pavilion car park will be closed for exhibitors at Kent Sport Co-Mission Conference. This is approximately 70 bays. Please ensure you remove your vehicle from the Pavilion car park by 22.00 Saturday 1 July. The car park should be reopened at 11.00 Monday 3 July.

Present- 8 July- Woolf car park

Woolf car park (approximately 15 bays) continues to be closed to assist UPP with their foul water pumping station project. The accessible bays within the Woolf Quad are still available.

Present- 15 September- Giles lane car park (section on right hand side as you drive in located behind Woolf)

The section of Giles Lane blue zone car park located behind Woolf College remains closed for the coach and minibus park to assist Kent Hospitality, Enrolment Management Services and Partnership Development Office with conference guests and school visits. This is approximately 40 bays.

Stagecoach Summer Unirider and timetable

If you are on campus over summer, you can purchase the Student Summer Unirider ticket for £70 which is valid until the start of term.  The Unirider is valid for all Stagecoach buses in Kent and East Sussex as well as in Canterbury, so you can explore what the area has to offer.

From 18 June- 16 September 2017 a summer timetable will operate for the Uni1 and Uni2 buses to and from Canterbury campus. The 4 and Triangle services will continue to operate as normal. If you would like a physical timetable you can collect one from the Security and Transport Centre or from other reception areas on campus.

Canterbury car park and road disruptions

Giles Lane road, which runs through the Canterbury campus, is a public highway. Over summer there will be some disruptions to the road while maintenance works are carried out. These works have been arranged over the summer break to cause minimal disruption. Please see below to learn when these works are occurring and any other car park disruptions at Canterbury campus.

16 June- Giles Lane car park

30 bays will be reserved in Giles Lane blue zone for an event being held at the Gulbenkian.

19-20 June- Rothford car park

The bays near to Keynes in Rothford car park will be closed while UPP set up a works compound so they can carry out refurbishments in Keynes. The car park bays near to Giles Lane will remain open.  If you require accessible bays on 19 or 20 June please contact us.

The car park will be reopened on Wednesday 21 June including accessible bays, minus approximately 8 bays which will be for the UPP site including contractor parking for the duration of the project. Kent Hospitality are also using approximately 4 bays in the Rothford car park near to Keynes for their portacabin.

19 June- 8 July- Woolf car park

Woolf car park (approximately 15 bays) will be closed for three weeks to assist UPP with their foul water pumping station project. The accessible bays within the Woolf Quad will still be available.

18 June- 15 September- Giles lane car park (section on right hand side as you drive in located behind Woolf)

The section of Giles Lane blue zone car park located behind Woolf College will be closed to create a coach and minibus park to assist Kent Hospitality, Enrolment Management Services and Partnership Development Office with conference guests and school visits. This is approximately 40 bays. Please note that on occasions the coach park size will increase as more coaches are expected on certain days.  We will notify you if and when there will be changes.

24- 30 June- Giles Lane road 3 way traffic lights- UPP

3-8 July – Giles Lane part road closure- South East Water

South East Water are required to close a small section of Giles Lane adjacent to Woodlands Way for approximately 5 days. A diversion will be in place along University road. Rothford car park will remain open but will not be accessible from the main campus. It will be accessible from Giles Lane via St Thomas Hill/ Whitstable road.

Late August – Giles Lane road closure- Kent Highways

We just wanted to let you know in advance that large sections of Giles Lane will be closed overnight (19.00-05.00) for 5 consecutive nights in late August for resurfacing and relining works by Kent Highways. Access will still be available. We will update when the dates have been confirmed. This work is being carried out overnight to reduce disruption.

Medway Dr Bike- free bike check up!

Dr Bike is visiting the Pembroke campus next Thursday (15 June 2017). Please note this is a change of date (previously Thursday 8 June). This is the last Dr Bike visit of this academic year.

Get your bike checked and adjusted for free by a trained bicycle mechanic. Dr Bike will be located in front of Rochester Building between 11:30 and 14:30.

Medway car park disruptions

Thursday 8 June- Mast Pond car park closure for Chatham Historic Dockyard event

We have been informed that the Mast Pond car park at the Dockyard will be closed. Chatham Historic Dockyard Traffic Marshals will be on hand to direct you to alternative parking. To assist them, please ensure you display your University of Kent permit to park on arrival. Parking will continue to be available at the Pembroke site for permit holders.

Saturday 17 – Wednesday 21 June – Drill Hall car park closure

The Drill Hall car park on the Medway Pembroke Campus will be closed to permit holders.

  • Saturday 17 June- from 08.00- 15.00 the car park will be used for the University of Kent Open Day at Medway.
  • Saturday 17 June- from 15.00- 00.00 it has been agreed by licence that Medway Council can use the Drill Hall car park to assist with parking for their Battle of Medway commemoration event. We are in close communication with Medway Council to ensure that this event does not cause disruption to our Open Day. We are not expecting any road closures or disruptions that will have an impact on visitors attending this event. We will provide further updates if required.
  • Sunday 18 – Wednesday 21 June- the car park will be closed for the UCAS Exhibition (HE Fair) being held by University of Greenwich. All card access to the car park barrier will be temporarily removed from KentOne cards with the exception of accessible bay permit holders. Please note all University of Kent permit holders can park within the University of Greenwich car parks on these days if they display their permit. University of Kent Gillingham and Mast Pond car parks will be available as usual.
  • Monday 19 June- Tuesday 20 June- University of Kent and University of Greenwich Central Avenue bays will be closed to assist with the UCAS Exhibition. University of Kent accessible bays and visitor bays will remain open as usual. University of Greenwich parking bays located on Upper East Road will be closed on Tuesday but the road will remain open.

Thursday 22 June- all car parks at Medway campus will be operating as usual.

Cycling and pedestrian disruption- Kent Union Summer Ball

There will be some disruption to cycle and pedestrian access in the Eliot area for the annual Kent Union Summer Ball.

Saturday 3 June from 18.00 (6pm) to Sunday 4 June 03.00 (3am)

  • All walk ways through to Eliot and Locke building will be closed.
  • No access to the Eliot cycle shelters or cycle bays to the side of Marlowe. See hatched area on map for the cycle areas that are closed.

We strongly advise that you relocate your bicycle to a different cycle shelter before 17.30 on Saturday.

Wednesday 31 May to Saturday 3 June

There will be some disruptions while Kent Union set up the area for the ball, these are as follows:

  • Eliot car park will be closed all week. (This disruption has been sent to all permit holders, see blog post). However you can still access the bike shelters until 17.30 Saturday.
  • Eliot garden will be closed.
  • All walk ways will remain accessible until 18.00 Saturday (see above)
  • The taxi rank outside the Venue will be closed on Saturday from 18.00.
  • Rutherford car park will be closed on Saturday to create a temporary taxi rank for the event.

Car park disruptions for Kent Union Summer Ball 2017

Kent Union Summer Ball

Wednesday 31 May- Sunday 4 June – Eliot car park will be fully closed during this period to allow Kent Union to set up and hold their annual Summer Ball (approx. 35 bays). Please ensure your vehicle is removed by 22.00 on Tuesday 30 May. Kent Union will hand back the car park at 8.30 on Monday 5 June and will be reopened if safe and agreed with Estates to do so.

Saturday 3 June- Rutherford car park will be fully closed to create a temporary taxi rank to assist with the Kent Union Summer Ball. Please ensure your vehicle is removed by 22.00 on Friday 2 June. Rutherford car park will be reopened on Sunday 4 June.

Accessible parking during this closure

We have contacted all Government Blue Badge holders or Accessible Bay permit holders who we are aware use Eliot car park, however if we have not contacted you and you have a requirement to park in Eliot car park during this closure please contact the Transport Team as soon as possible so that we can arrange alternative parking for you.

Car park disruptions week commencing 15 May 2017

Giles Lane car park

Wednesday 17 May 2017- 10 bays will be reserved in Giles Lane blue zone near Woolf College for exhibitors (with equipment) to an event being held by Research Services.

Saturday 20 May 2017- Giles Lane blue and pink zone car park will be closed on Saturday for the Gulbenkian outdoor screening. Please ensure you remove your vehicle from the car park by 22.00 on Friday 19 May.

Security and Transport Centre

The Transport Team have now relocated to the new Security and Transport Centre (map) with Campus Security on central campus between the banks. Please visit us in the Security and Transport Centre for all transport and parking enquiries.

We’re moving! New Security and Transport Centre

The Transport Team are relocating to the new Security and Transport Centre (map) with Campus Security on 8 May 2017. The building is an extension of the current Campus Security building, located between the two banks on central campus.

We are excited for the opportunity to improve collaboration with Campus Security and to enhance the services we provide from a more central location. The new building delivers an improved working environment for the teams and includes a reception area that has been specifically designed to improve customer experience. The new location also provides us with the space to expand of our team so we can process enquiries more efficiently.

The opening times for the Security and Transport Centre are as follows:

  • Transport Team: Monday- Friday 8.30- 17.00
  • Campus Security: always open

For all travel enquiries, including collection of parking permits and staff bus passes, please come to the Security and Transport Centre. The building continues to be developed so we will keep you updated.
