New card access cycle shelter at Medway campus

We are pleased to announce that the new cycle shelter at Medway campus now has card access controls. This means that your KentOne card can now be programmed to let you in the cycle shelter, providing a lockable place to store your bicycle.

The new card access cycle shelter is located behind the Rochester building. The cycle shelter design includes wooden panelling to fit in with surrounding structures and clear panels as an added security measure. CCTV is also in operation in this area.

To gain access on your KentOne card, email transport@kent.ac.uk with the number on the back of your KentOne card and we will arrange for card access to be given.

Campus Shuttle Updates

Campus Shuttle new look for this year

The shuttle service has been revamped.  The Campus Shuttle can now be easily identified as a service provided by the University of Kent exclusive for University of Kent students and staff. For more images of the new look see @CampusShuttle on twitter.

 Campus Shuttle new ticketing system

This year The Kings Ferry has developed a new ticket system. Although you do not have to, booking will guarantee you a seat on the service. This will also assist the University of Kent with monitoring the service.

  1. Before you travel ensure that you have a copy of your e ticket.  This can be either a printed version or from a mobile device
  2. When boarding the coach please show the driver your ticket
  3. The driver will scan the QR code which will confirm your travel

Reminders about cancelling or amending bookings

  • Please remember to cancel bookings online if you no longer need to travel on the service. This allows other people to travel
  • You cannot cancel a seat online on the day, but please email CampusShuttle@kent.ac.uk to let us know you no longer need to travel on the service
  • You cannot make or amend a booking on the day of travel, but as long as there are seats available, you can board the service by showing your KentOne card

Cycle to Work Day

On behalf of Kent Sport:

On Wednesday 14 September Kent Sport would like to invite all University of Kent staff and students who cycle to work/study or are interested in cycling, to join them at the NEW Kent Sport Cycle Hub (due for completion very soon, located next to the Pavilion) for tea/coffee and bacon rolls.

There will be a chance to talk to Kent Sport staff about the Cycle Hub and its cycle hire, maintenance and events in collaboration with other University initiatives promoting cycling on campus, such as Dr Bike. We welcome any comments or feedback from riders on the day. The event runs on Wednesday 14 from 8am to 9am with a photo opportunity at 8.30am.

Cancellation of National Express 270 service to London Gatwick Airport

The National Express 270 service to London Gatwick Airport is unfortunately being cancelled this month.

The service launched in December 2015 but due to lack of numbers, National Express have come to the decision that it is not financially sustainable to keep the service running.

The service which called at Canterbury and Medway campuses will cease running from 17 July 2016.

If you still wish to travel by coach from the University campuses to London Gatwick airport you can take a National Express coach to London Victoria and change.

The 022 service calls at Keynes bus stop at the Canterbury campus and has a regular service to London Victoria.

The 022 and 007 services from Hempstead Valley shopping centre in Medway also go to London Victoria.

New card access cycle shelter- Medway campus

From listening to feedback from cyclists at Medway we have decided to install card access cycle shelters at the Medway campus.

Between Monday 4 July and Tuesday 12 July, works will be carried out to transform the cycle loops by Rochester building to a covered card access cycle shelter.

Please use the cycle loops at the bottom of the steps by the Medway building while the work is being carried out.
