Stagecoach student Unirider ticket

The cheapest way for Canterbury students to travel around the local area is the Stagecoach Unirider, which allows unlimited travel across Kent and East Sussex. The Unirider ticket is valid for the academic year and the discount is exclusive to University of Kent students.

For the first two weeks of term, the Unirider will be available to buy from the Unibus parked on the lawn outside the Registry building on the Canterbury Campus between 10:00 and 16:00. It is also available to buy online from the Stagecoach website.

Remember to purchase up to and including 1 October for the early bird discount of £180 for the academic year. This is a saving of 77% on the public price. After the 1 October, the price will change to £255 for the academic year.

To start with, your Student Saver bus pass can take you around Chatham, so you can easily get to:

Dockside Outlet Centre

which has some interesting has some to mill around, the Cadbury’s outlet shop is an absolute must for chocolate lovers out there! It also has some pretty decent shops for your University needs such as Denby if you are still in need for cutlery, plates and other kitchen/dining essentials and the Range for any stationary needs.

The Pentagon shopping centre

in Chatham too if you haven’t been yet has some of your classic high street stores such as Boots, Foot Locker, JD Sports and more.

Our academic discounted bus passes aren’t just for use in only Chatham, they’re valid for our whole south east region so we’ve taken the liberty to find some great places around Kent you can get to with your pass to do a bit of shopping:

Bluewater

has most shops you could really want, with Topshop/Topman, River Island, Footasylum, Fred Perry, H&M, JD Sports, Missguided, New Look, The North Face and loads more!

Simply get on the Arriva Sapphire 700 bus which features eco-leather seats, USB charging points and free wi-fi!

Hempstead Valley

has some pretty cool stores such as JD, select and New Look as well as places to eat like Friendly Phil’s Diner, Nando’s and Subway. The 132 bus will take you there.

Fremlin Walk

in Maidstone is home to all your high street essentially such as Topshop/Topman, H&M, Office, New Look/New Look Men and River Island to name but a few. You could also grab a few bits in Maidstone’s shopping centre The Mall, too! Hop on the Arriva Sapphire 101 bus for Maidstone.


Nights out

Whether you’re into casual drinks or clubbing into the early hours there’s no need to fret as Arriva have you covered. Our specially discounted bus pass for the academic year not only takes you from your accommodation into University but is also valid throughout our whole South East region too. We’ve done our research (thank us later!) and found the best routes for you to enjoy the nightlife that Kent has to offer you.

Maidstone

boasts a cracking weekend nightlife, with clubs such as:

There are also great pubs and bars if you don’t fancy the club.

The last bus home from Maidstone back to Chatham is at 23:10 on a Friday and 00:10 on Saturday night. Anyone looking to stay out all night the first bus back on a Saturday morning is as 06:46 from Maidstone East Train station, with Source bar open until 5am.

Take the Arriva Sapphire 700 bus to Bluewater where there are some really great places you can go to eat and if you have an NUS card there are these exclusive discounts you can get, though we recommend verifying this discount with the restaurant before ordering!

Arriva discounted bus tickets

We work with Arriva bus company to provide highly discounted bus tickets for students and staff.

The annual student and staff tickets allow travel on any Arriva bus all over Medway, Kent and East Sussex. The student annual ticket is £140 which works out as only 39p per day!

You can purchase the tickets online using the promotional code found on our website or from the Arriva bus on campus today (20 September 2017) outside the Student Hub.

Pick up timetables, ask any questions and purchase your ticket from the Arriva bus on campus next to the fresher’s fair.

Cycle hire on campus

Canterbury students can hire a recycled bike on the following dates:

  • Wednesday 20 September, 9.00-15.00 (Cycle Hub by the Pavilion)
  • Sunday 24 September, 11.00-15.00 (outside the Gulbenkian)
  • Wednesday 27 September, 9.00-15.00 (Cycle Hub by the Pavilion)
  • Wednesday 4 October, 9.00-15.00 (Cycle Hub by the Pavilion)

Hire a bike for £30/ term, which includes a good quality bike lock, lights and a bell.

You will need to pay a deposit of £50, £75 or £100 depending on the bike you choose.

Medway students can hire a bike from Liberty Quays accommodation.

Medway Dr Bike dates for your diary

Dr Bike is a free service available to University of Kent students and staff. Trained bicycle mechanics come to campus to check over and adjust your bike for free.

Dr Bike is visiting Medway campus on the following dates:

  • Thursday 9 February 2017
  • Thursday 16 March 2017 *change of date, previously 9 March 2017*
  • Friday 12 May 2017 *change of date, previously 11 May 2017*
  • Thursday 15 June 2017 *change of date, previously 8 June 2017*

Dr Bike will be located on the grass in front of Rochester Building on the Pembroke campus between 11:30 and 14:30 on these days. Please check the @unikent_travel twitter feed (which can also be seen on the Transport News webpage) for confirmation on the day.

Stagecoach Spring and Summer term bus ticket

If you regret not purchasing the academic year ticket in September, don’t worry as there is another chance to purchase the ticket which will take you through till the end of the academic year.

The Stagecoach Unirider ticket allows travel on any Stagecoach bus in Kent and East Sussex. The cost of the ticket is £170 and it is valid until 18 June 2017. The Unirider ticket is heavily discounted, gives you the freedom to explore Kent easily, and means you no longer need to have change ready to catch the bus.

Arriva January- December 2017 discounted bus pass

Missed out on the Arriva discounted bus ticket at the start of the year? You have another opportunity to purchase the discounted bus ticket which is valid until 31 December 2017.

The ticket allows travel on any Arriva bus all over Medway, Kent and East Sussex. This includes the 191 trial service which operates to and from Liberty Quays- Campus- Chatham- Isle of Grain, which stops on Pembroke campus and at Western Avenue and Dock Road for access to the Historic Dockyard Chatham.

The student annual ticket is £140 which works out at around 39p per day. The staff annual ticket is £280 which works out at around 78p per day. To get access to these huge discounts you will need to enter the relevant promotional code found at www.kent.ac.uk/transport/arriva. Once you have entered the code, the price will drop down from £900 to £140 or £280 accordingly.

January cycle hire dates

The Transport Team, Estates department, work with CyclingAge to run an affordable cycle hire scheme at Canterbury Campus.

You can hire a bike for the term for £30 to help you get around campus and keep fit at the same time.

Hire a bike on Wednesday 18 January or Saturday 21 January from CyclingAge at the new Cycle Hub located by the Pavilion on Park Wood road.

Summer Student Unirider Ticket available to purchase

All Unirider academic year bus tickets have now expired as the tickets are valid for the academic year only.

If you still want to get around the East Kent area easily and affordably check out the Summer Unirider ticket which is available to purchase online from Stagecoach.

The Summer Unirider ticket costs £70 and is valid until 18 September 2016.
