Summer Music Week bursts into life both on and off campus next week, in a feast of musical events between 7 – 13 June.
This annual musical adieu to the academic year featuring many of the University’s musicians and ensembles, culminating in the grand finale, Music for a Summer’s Day on Saturday 13 June.
The week begins on Sunday 7 June with the University Big Band at Deal Memorial Bandstand conducted by Ian Swatman and culminates on Saturday 13 June in a cconcert with the Chorus, Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Choir in the Colyer-Fergusson Hall, followed by cream teas on the Registry lawn.
The range of music throughout the week ranges from Big Band swing to operatic arias and music for strings, and this year the programme includes a new commission by the Music Department, ‘Ringing Changes,’ for choir, ensemble and electronics, written as part of the University’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
