40,000 extra e-books for you until August

During the coming months, you have access to 40,000 extra e-books from three prominent, high quality academic publishers: Cambridge University Press, Oxford University Press, and Elsevier (via ScienceDirect).

They are available to all Kent students and staff.

Discover and use them for seminar preparation, essays or research. They’re easy to use and download on PCs, laptops and tablets.

To see what’s available, go to the e-book collections page on the Library website.

These e-books are also all in LibrarySearch just do your normal search for a topic and these extra titles will come up.

To narrow your search to e-books, you can set the filters on the right to Full Text Online (at the top) and Books (under resource type).

What happens in August?

The Library will buy the e-books that you used the most from these collections (around 2,000 of them) and they will become a permanent part of the Library e-book provision.

This is a new way of buying e-books that we are trying out. It puts you, our students and staff, directly in charge of selecting what e-books we buy, based on your reading patterns.

Sporting Lecture – Introduction to strength and conditioning

Tuesday 3rd March saw Kent Sport deliver the second of its series of Sporting Lectures to celebrate the University’s 50th anniversary year and aimed at engaging with students studying at schools in the local Canterbury area.

The lectures form part of the University’s commitment to inspire and develop the sports professionals of the future, with a further goal of highlighting how a firmer understanding of the topics covered can help to enhance sporting performance.

Resident Kent Sport coaches James Cooper and Ben Roberts shared a practical introduction to how Strength & Conditioning is provided for elite level athletes and completed the session with a walking tour of Kent Sport’s new performance area, equipped with four Olympic-standard weightlifting platforms.

Students from four local institutions Canterbury High School, Canterbury College, The Simon Langton School for Boys and St. Edmunds were in attendance, with participants ranging in age and coming from a variety of different sporting backgrounds.

The next lecture is scheduled for Tuesday 10th March and will be focused on the role that a coach plays in sport. This lecture is being coordinated by the Coaching Network Officer for Kent, Louisa Arnold, and will be hosted at Canterbury College.

If you would like to know more details about the lectures or how your institution can get involved in collaboration with Kent Sport, please contact a member of the Sports Development team sportsdevelopment@kent.ac.uk
