Kent Career Mentoring offers you the opportunity to get personalised career advice from someone who has been in your position. We aim to connect students with Kent alumni, to receive guidance and support in achieving their career ambitions. Where possible, students are matched with an alumnus working in a profession they are interested in. You will find their experience and advice invaluable, making a big difference to your future career prospects.
We are inviting all first and second year students, as well as students who will be enrolled on a Kent postgraduate course in Autumn, to participate in a career mentoring programme starting in October.

- Plant identification for beginners – free course for conservation students!
Kent County Council’s Old Chalk New Downs project is running a free beginner’s botany course aimed at ecology / nature conservation / environmental science students. It will focus on the identification of UK wildflowers and chalk grassland. Participants will learn about the useful features of plants that can enable them to decide which family a plant belongs to and gain confidence in how to start to identify plants to the species level. Course dates: 10th / 17th or 24th June

- Psychology Student Volunteer opportunity (data entry)
The Psicon Group, a specialist psychological and health service is looking for a Psychology student volunteer to assist with data entry and gain valuable work experience. This post would suit an undergraduate Psychology student or graduate who is keen to have exposure to a psychology service and gain an overview of how an assessment questionnaire tool is used in the assessment of ASD.
- One-year post-graduate job scheme for Psychology graduates – working with primary school children – deadline 20th June
Graduating this summer and interested in working with primary school aged children? Two Bridges School in Tunbridge Wells is looking for a Psychology graduate to work alongside the programme lead on their Primary Focus programme; a nurture-based programme to support primary aged pupils with social and emotional coping strategies.
- Psychology student wanted for part-time therapy role (Head First)
Head First provides access to mandatory training and brain injury specific training. Head First also provide regular 1:1 clinical supervision and 24/7 emergency on-call support. This is a great opportunity for a therapy assistant to assist a 14 year-old girl with her independence and ongoing rehabilitation.

- Canterbury Archaeological Trust – Layout Artist – deadline 17th June
Are you a graduating SAC student with design skills? Canterbury Archaeological Trust is seeking to employ a Layout Artist. Ideally someone with existing experience, although the position is also suitable for a recently qualified college or university graduate. Must have a good working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat), as well as a familiarity in using website content management systems (WordPress and WIX).

Are you planning or have you recently secured some unpaid work experience? Attending a training or networking event which will help you in your future career? You could be entitled to funding of up to £250!
This funding will contribute towards the cost of transport, accommodation, training, childcare, or uniform.
To be eligible, you must be:
- Be a student registered with the University of Kent, studying in the UK.
- Be undertaking work which is considered graduate-level or attending a training / networking opportunity that will support your employability upon graduation.
- Claim the funding against costs incurred in the first 3 weeks (or 120 hours) of your work experience.

Interview Skills and Tips with Intel, 11:00-12:00, Online
This session will give you an insight into how to successfully prepare for an interview, how to stand out to hiring managers and how to best speak about your skills and experience.
We will also detail the opportunities Intel offers undergraduates, such as a chance for growth and learning while working with industry-leading innovation. We offer 13-month internships in a range of disciplines within our Swindon, Marlow and Basingstoke sites. Interns are an integral part of the Intel family – you can be sure that your achievements will be recognized here.

This session is aimed at current or recent taught postgraduates.

PG Week: Working in research outside of academia, 17:00-18:00, Online
Are you interested in a career in research, but outside of academia? Have you undertaken a master’s and you are wondering how you can use your research skills in industry? Join our alumni panel who will discuss their careers within research and how they have used their skills from their master’s, as well as a Q&A to answer any of your questions.
The panel will be made up of Kent alumni who have previously undertaken a master’s and are now working in research, including:

Wednesday 8 June
PG Week: Postgraduate taster session at the Kent Community Oasis Garden, 11:00-13:00, Meet at Careers and Employability Service Building, Canterbury Campus
Open to Postgraduate students only.
Come and discover the Kent Community Oasis Garden situated at Parkwood. Come along for a 2-hour session at the garden to find out more about the project and get stuck into some gardening yourselves with a taster guided activity. Tea and biscuits provided!
Note: Please make sure you are wearing comfortable, flat footwear that is as sturdy as possible. We have some wellington boots available to borrow but these are limited in size and numbers.

PG Week: Teacher Training Opportunities for Postgrads with Teach First, 14:00-15:00, Online

PG Week: Interview skills for Postgrads, 11:00-12:00, Online
As you approach graduation and start preparing for your next steps, including interviews, this session will cover common interview questions and how to approach them, including competency, strengths based and motivational questions. The session will also look at steps to take to prepare for an interview, helping you to feel more confident for the real thing! This session is aimed at Postgraduate students.
The Future Talent Programme will take place on 8th July, 2022 and will consist of regular touchpoints over the course of two years, both virtual and in person. As a programme participant, you will meet peers, develop practical skills, and learn about the consulting industry. The Future Talent Programme was created to support talented individuals in the UK and Ireland who come from a disadvantaged background. Applications are open to students from all degree backgrounds in their first year (or second year if enrolled in a four-year degree) of university. The deadline to apply is Saturday 4th June. Future You is a unique event designed to provide bright and ambitious students with disabilities and longterm health conditions an insight into the career opportunities available within disability confident
employers, the support available, and how to access this.
You will have the opportunity to:
- Understand the importance of disability to our participating firms
- Hear from panellists what it is like to work with a disability with a top employer
- Learn how to positively disclose your disability and request support
- Participate in confidence building and motivation sessions
- Expand your network with disability confident employers.
The event is open to all undergraduate students who have a disability* or long-term health conditions –visible or otherwise – interested in finding out more about career opportunities. Applications are particularly welcomed from those studying STEM subjects. Students studying for a Masters of PHD are also welcome to apply.
