Hear from a panel of alumni from the School of Psychology who will be talking about their careers in the sector after graduation. We have alumni speakers working in Clinical, Forensic, and Educational Psychology as well as University of Kent TEDX speaker. You will gain first-hand information and practical advice on some of the exciting careers paths available with a Psychology degree. Students can ask questions of our alumni speakers in the chat throughout the event, and there will be an opportunity at the end to ask questions directly. - Destination Success Bootcamp – 24-26 May
The Careers and Employability Service is launching our first ‘Destination Success Bootcamp’ which is a 3-day intensive training programme with the purpose of helping students to map out their journey to success and build confidence in their abilities. This programme is suitable to those across all years, including recent graduates.

- Ecological work experience opportunity: bat surveyor – deadline 31st March
Interested in gaining experience within the ecological sector over the summer season? Calling all conservation students to assist with bat surveys as field surveyors this summer survey season (May-August/September). This is a paid position on an ad-hoc basis.
- Summer work placement for Psychology students – deadline 8th April
The Evelina London Cleft Service (ELCS) at St Thomas’ Hospital London has a summer placement available for undergraduate psychology students. This placement is unpaid for 4 days per week (exact days can be flexible), ideally for an undergraduate student who is between years 2 and 3 or 3 and 4.

What are reasonable adjustments, and should I request them? Telling an employer about your disability is a personal choice, but there are benefits to doing so – one of these is asking for reasonable adjustments to enable to bring your whole, best self to work.
This session will give you some ideas of different adjustments you may benefit from, and how and when to speak to an employer about them.
Employability Points Scheme – The Application Process, 13:00-14:00, Online
From January, you can find out about this year’s fantastic EP sponsor companies and the amazing rewards they provide.
The deadline to log all your activities on My Folio is 14 March, after which the application process begins. This session will discuss how to apply and provide examples of some of the available rewards. There will also be time to ask questions.
Study Plus – Impossible situations and what to do about them by Steve Haines, 14:00-15:00, Online
This session is about how to deal with things going wrong at work. It includes:
- Learning what to do when things go wrong
- Crying in the loos and other hideous realities (and why frustration is not the same as failure)
- The importance of kindness and allyship in work
- Understanding the spectrum of ‘failure’ from not complying with a process to creative experimentation
- Supporting your wellbeing on difficult projects and in challenging work environments
The session shares some practical exercises on how to manage challenges, tips on how to maintain wellbeing in difficult situations and some useful perspectives about the realities of work.

Clean and green environments can nurture positive mental and physical wellbeing and promote a happier community. A litter-free campus reduces damage to local habitats, and by recycling materials that might otherwise become litter, natural resources are also protected.
It is well known that litter breeds litter; people are generally less likely to drop litter in an area that is clean. The first and most effective method of prevention, therefore, is setting the example in your community taking part in a Clean Up Litter Pick.
This links with goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities and goal 15: Life on Land on the UN sustainability goals.

CIMA Business Game: The Power of Opportunity, 15:00-16:30, Online
A CIMA business game is a session delivered by a CIMA representative. The content has been developed from the CIMA qualification and gives students a taster of what it is to be a management accountant within a variety of business roles and scenarios.
The session has a strong focus on employability, and encourages students to develop their soft skills; working within teams to develop their communication and presentation skills, by participating in a practical case study task.

Choosing between the LPC and the SQE, 11:00-12:00, Online
Please note that this is mainly a discussion session – a chance for you to ask questions and seek clarification.
We’ll start with a refresher / an overview of the differences between the LPC and the SQE and bring you up to date with the latest news about the SQE including how the first set of examinations went. The main focus, however, will be an open Q&A. If you are still not sure which qualification is right for you or need clarification about anything please come along.
The session will be led by Jayne Instone, Senior Careers Adviser with a specialism in Law. Jayne has been keeping up to date with the SQE news. Whilst she may not know all of the answers, she will know how to find them! See you there.

This session will cover common interview questions and how to approach them, including competency, strengths based and motivational questions. The session will also look at steps to take to prepare for an interview, helping you to feel more confident for the real thing!

Volunteering in the Kent Community Oasis Garden, 12:30-14:00, Meet at Careers and Employability Service Building Reception, Canterbury Campus
Come along and join us at KentCOG every other Wednesday from 12:30pm-2pm. You will meet fellow students, learn new skills and get the most out of gardening, socialising and wellbeing opportunities. We also aim to run workshops supporting the local wildlife.
Please wear sturdy footwear, bring waterproofs (always be prepared for the wet weather!) There is shelter in the potting shed and also in the polytunnels.
All tools will be provided.

- The Adobe Digital Edge Awards
An industry-recognised award, which credits the best student examples of digital literacy in the country. This is a fantastic opportunity for students who are applying to placement or grad roles, to demonstrate desirable employability skills such as creative thinking and communication.
From engineering to geography, business to architecture, the Digital Edge Awards are open to all UK university students. To enter, students should submit coursework where they’ve showcased digital literacy skills – that’s work that shows off creative problem solving, critical thinking and visual communication! The awards are judged by a panel of experts, including
the founder of RateMyPlacement, Oliver Sidwell!
As well as the opportunity to receive an accolade for their CV, two winners will receive a £9,250 cash prize, alongside six runner-up prizes of £1,000!

National Film and Television School – Creative Careers Clinics
Final Session! These sessions will offer current undergraduate students insight into how they can establish a career in the film, television or games industry after their degree, how their skills are adaptable and what potential career pathways are available to them.
Monday 28th March, 4:30pm – Cinematography
Cinematography is an essential part of filmmaking – visual storytelling is emphasised alongside the art of creating mood and evoking emotion through the right combination of composition and lighting. Join the NFTS to learn about cinematography within the film and television industry and to find out more about this exciting and creative career path.
This session would be suitable for undergraduates currently studying relevant courses including photography, filmmaking, documentary, film studies and photojournalism.

The Slaughter and May Innovation Competition is an exciting opportunity for law and non-law students to develop their creative thinking skills by considering what the future might look like for the legal sector and what the next big disruption might be.
Applicants are asked to submit a response, in any format they deem appropriate (for example video, podcast, blog post), to one of two set questions by 4 April 2022 for a chance to win £1,000 cash prize and a work placement within the Knowledge & Innovation team at Slaughter and May. The applicants who come in second and third place will win £500 and £250 respectively.

How can law firms innovate to ensure that environment, social and governance (ESG) goals are met internally and for their clients?
