Every October, Black History Month is celebrated across the world, to explore the rich culture, origins, histories, and achievements of African and Caribbean communities and their diaspora.
This year the theme is Saluting Our Sisters, and we have a range of events at our Canterbury and Medway campuses including exhibitions, inspirational speakers, film nights and crafts.
What’s on this month
Together with Kent Union, we’ve got lots planned including:
- Grand opening of the Ẹwà: Beauty Exhibition with a talk by the artist, head wrap demos, drinks and Nigerian food. All welcome. Wed 4 Oct 17:00-19:00 in Keynes Atrium, Canterbury.
- African style painting session, Wed 11 Oct 12:00-15:00 in Venue, Canterbury.
- Crafternoon celebrating Black history and culture, Thu 12 Oct 12:00-15:00 in The Hub, Medway.
- Music Society x ACS bring you a night of Black Artists throughout the decades, Tues 17 Oct 19:30 – 23:55 at The Deep End, Medway.
- History with a Flex: inspirational talk with Pauline Campbell. West Indian food and refreshments provided, Wed 18 Oct 13:30-15:00 in Chipperfield Lecture Theatre, Canterbury.
- Black Owned Student Business Market, Thu 26 Oct 12:00-16:00 in the Plaza/Venue, Canterbury.

Ẹwà: Beauty Exhibition in Keynes, Oct – Dec
Nigerian born artist Abolore Sobayo explores the beauty of sisterhood among Yoruba women through their culture of helping each other. Join the launch event on 4 October.
