Language Express French and Japanese 20-week courses start in Medway on 11 October 2017.
They are open to Kent students and staff as well as members of the public.
Fees are only £110 if you are a Kent student (limited to the first 35 applicants). Kent staff can apply for funding from Learning and Development.

Congratulations go to Deborah Molloy, a member of the Graduate School team, who has been awarded the Elsa Nettels Prize for a Beginning Scholar from the Edith Wharton Society. She won the prize for her paper entitled ‘In the Cave of the Oracle: Feminine Tragedy in The House of Mirth and Mrs Manstey’s View’. In addition to winning the $250 prize her essay will be considered for publication in the Edith Wharton Review.
The Elsa Nettles award recognises the best unpublished essay on Edith Wharton by a beginning scholar, advanced graduate students, independent scholars, and academics who have not held a full-time appointment for more than four years.
This is a great start for Deborah, who begins a part-time PhD in 20th Century American Women’s Literature next month. She joins the many members of staff undertaking study alongside their professional commitments.
All continuing students must complete returning registration via the Student Data System. This will open on Tuesday 19th September prior to the start of the academic year. The deadline for returning registration is 6th October 2017.
Once you have logged on to the Student Data System you need to select ‘Registration’ and then ‘Returning Registration’.
Returning registration should not be confused with course or module registration. If you wish to amend your modules at this time you will need to contact your School directly.
When registering you will be required to check your personal details and update them if they have changed.
To ensure swift payment of your student loan, please ensure you re-register online by 4pm on Wednesday 20th September. It takes three to five working days from the point of registration for funds to be released to your account by the Student Loans Company.
If you are unable to register due to an outstanding debt or finance flag on your record you should contact the University’s Income Office for assistance. Please note that fee payment does not mean you are registered.
Note: Returning students DO NOT need to attend Arrivals Weekend / Welcome Week.
Failure to complete returning registration may result in you being unable to continue your studies.

Stage 0 and 1 timetables will be on the Student Guide by Friday 22 September 2017.
Stage 2 and 3 students
Stage 2 and 3 timetables will be on the Student Guide during the week starting Monday 11 September.
Postgraduate students
Postgraduate timetables will be on the Student Guide by Friday 22 September 2017.
Resits students
If you had to resit an exam over the summer your timetable might be delayed. Your timetable will be on the Student Guide by Friday 22 September 2017 at the latest.

Works are due to commence on Monday 11th September 2017, to refurbish the vacant School of Mathematics and George Allen Buildings within the Cornwallis complex of buildings.
Works include the full internal refurbishment, replacement windows and new roof coverings. The work is planned to complete in March 2018. The contractor Coombs (Canterbury) Ltd will form a compound in the courtyard at the rear of Cornwallis East. Access to the Cornwallis courtyard, disabled parking bays and George Allen lift will be maintained throughout.

Darwin College- Fire Alarm Testing
On Wednesday 6th September – Friday 15th September 2017 between 9am and 4pm, essential fire alarm testing will be carried out in the Darwin College.
Each test will last no longer than 2 minutes and will be silent testing under controlled conditions. All rooms will need to be accessed, as this testing is a legal requirement.
The testing will be carried out in-house by the Estates department fire alarm engineer.

Scaffold Tower in Eliot College Dining Hall
On Friday the 8th of September 2017 until approximately Friday the 15th of September 2017, a scaffold tower will be constructed in Eliot College Dining Hall provisionally for 1 week to facilitate essential maintenance work to the glazed screen to the Lyons Room.
There will be some noise disruption whilst the scaffolding is being put up.

Since 2012, the Centre for English and World Languages (CEWL) has run 7 highly successful Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) courses.
This year, for the first time, we took on a full cohort of 12 candidates for a five-week full time course.
All 12 CELTA trainees successfully passed and immediately went into paid employment and/or on to further academic study, which was a brilliant outcome! Well done CELTA graduates of 2017!

New September Starters 2017
All new students must complete online enrolment prior to attending registration.

Students, including those living off campus are expected to register during Arrivals Weekend and Welcome Week.
They are required to attend in person and provide their passport as identification to complete the registration process.
Canterbury Campus
All students can register in the Sports Centre between the following times:
