Condolences for Dr Chris Wilson

Dr Chris Wilson peacefully passed away at home recently. He was a kind, gentle man, an inspirational tutor of many Classics courses over several decades at the University’s Tonbridge Centre and at the Canterbury Campus. He will be fondly remembered by many, staff and students alike.

A private family funeral has already taken place. Friends, colleagues, associates and students of Chris are welcome to join what is expected to be a large gathering on Friday 30 October at the prestigious Tonbridge School where Chris had previously taught. Tonbridge School would appreciate the finalising of numbers for catering purposes by 23 October, so anyone wishing to attend should contact the University’s Tonbridge Centre for further details as soon as possible.

Private messages of condolence/cards to Chris’s widow Jane can be sent via the internal post to the Tonbridge Centre for passing on.

New catering outlet – Hut8, Turing College

Working late on campus and in need of refreshments? Hut8 opened on the Canterbury campus in Welcome Week and provides late-night catering options, seven days a week.

Hut8, named after the building where Alan Turing worked at Bletchley Park, is located at Turing College. This new outlet offers three eateries in one food-court style space, including pizza, fish and chips and flame-grilled BBQ items.

Open from 5pm, you can either eat in the restaurant seating area, which includes a pool table and live sporting games on the big screen TVs, or take advantage of the delivered takeaway service straight to your office building. The Hut8 team can be seen whizzing round campus on bicycles making their deliveries.

Don’t forget that there are over a dozen catering outlets on the Canterbury campus, with varying cuisines and different ordering options to suit all tastes. So whether you want to grab a quick coffee, order a sandwich online to takeaway or have a sit down Tex-Mex lunch and catch up with colleagues, we have something for everyone. For all the outlet menus and opening times, please see the catering website.
