Dr Antônio da Silva from the Department of Hispanic Studies will be presenting a workshop as a guest speaker at the conference ‘Portuguese as a Global Language: Challenges and Opportunities in Teaching and Learning’.
The conference is part of the Routes into Languages consortium, an initiative of several universities working with schools and colleges to encourage people to study languages.
The conference will see a forum of university and secondary school specialists address aspects of Portuguese learning and teaching in the UK, including the teaching of pragmatics and Portuguese as a heritage language.
Antônio’s workshop is titled ‘Synchronous and Asynchronous Activities in Portuguese Language Teaching: Cinema, Blogs, Phones and Beyond’.
There has been much discussion around the incorporation of blended learning, that is interactive learning using media and technology, not only in language teaching but also in education in general.
This workshop will explore the advantages of embedding blended learning in the language teaching curriculum and how this offers possibilities for synchronous and asynchronous activities.
To illustrate such possibilities, some practical activities using cinema, blogs, phones, etc, will be developed and suggestions of resources and activities that can be explored as part of the teaching/learning process. The conference will be held on 30 June. Read more.
