The Pint of Science festival aims to deliver interesting and relevant talks on the latest science research in an accessible format to the public – mainly across bars and pubs.
The idea is to provide a platform which allows people to discuss research with the people who carry it out without prior knowledge of the subject. This is a fantastic opportunity to engage the public with your research and to get experience of sharing it with new audiences.
Call for expressions of interest
The Kent Pint of Science Team is co-ordinating the University of Kent’s involvement for the first time in 2017. We have selected a handful of pubs in the Canterbury and Medway areas and are looking for expressions of interest from speakers, particularly Early Career Researchers and final year PhD students looking to develop their skills and experience in talking about their research.
If you are interested, please email us at pintofscience@kent.ac.uk with the following details by 23.59 on Thursday 1 December:
1. Your name and school
2. A summary of your research (max 100 words)
3. Your plan for an interactive session of 20-30 minutes (max 100 words)
4. An explanation of how you will make it engaging for the public audience (max 100 words).
The Kent Pint of Science Team will review the expressions with a view to developing themes for each evening of the festival (see the Pint of Science website for inspiration and information on their themes). We will contact everyone in December with the outcome. We will organise a practice run in the spring for all of our speakers.
You can see more about Pint of Science on their website, including previous events.
Please direct any questions on this call to the Kent Pint of Science team c/o Maddy Bell, Impact & Engagement Officer at pintofscience@kent.ac.uk.
Good luck!
