K-Moocs: possibilities and opportunities for online learning at Kent

We’ll be running an event on the afternoon of Monday 8 June at the Unit for Enhancement of Learning and Teaching.

We’ll share and reflect on our experiences with the pilot MOOC, and further explore the possibilities and opportunities for Kent with MOOCs and other online learning.

The event will be held in the UELT Seminar Room and start at 12.30pm with a buffet lunch. We’ll then start at 1.00pm with an update on the project, including a review and reflections on our pilot MOOC in Functional Programming with Erlang, and the associated Master Class series of online lectures.

We’ll explore the potential impact of MOOCs and other online learning, with a particular focus on internationalisation (note that our 500 pilot participants came from over 50 countries). We’ll set out our recommendations – and alternatives – for taking the K-MOOCs project forward, and discuss ‘what next?’ including your ideas and priorities. We’ll sum up by 3.00pm – but you’ll also be very welcome to stay on beyond that time for further open discussion and feedback.

One of our participants has written their own review of our MOOC on their blog at https://oylenshpeegul.wordpress.com/2015/05/23/erlang-mooc/

Please email Mark O’Connor if you or colleagues would like to book your place (also please let him know of any dietary or other requirements).
