Mentoring schemes connect you with someone who can offer you support to develop your skills for work, navigate graduate application processes, understand a particular industry or to be a sounding board and much more. Some mentees get much more than this. It’s a very supportive environment where you can ask any question in a safe place. Don’t miss out on such a great opportunity.
LSSJ has three different schemes you can apply to:
1. Kent Law School Professional Mentoring Scheme – deadline has passed. If you are thinking of applying next year, then please do find more information on the Get Into Law blog here: https://blogs.kent.ac.uk/getintolaw/mentoring/
2. Centre for Journalism Professional Mentoring Scheme – this scheme is available to journalism students only who are seeking careers in media. Applications forms were emailed to you on the 30th April. Deadline to apply Monday 24th May at 9am.
3. Kent Career Mentoring – this newly launched scheme is open to students of Psychology, SSPSSR (not Social Work) and Politics & IR. Kent Career Mentoring is a way for Kent students to connect with Kent Alumni working in industry, to receive guidance, in order to support them in their future careers. Students taking part in Kent Career Mentoring will have the opportunity to:
- Explore a particular profession or sector
- Develop employability skills and grow in confidence
- Establish and build professional connections
- Earn 15 Employability Points and receive a certificate upon completion
Autumn 2021 mentoring programme
Mentoring will take place between September – December 2021
Eligibility: Students must be registered with one of the following schools:
SSPSSR (but not open to Social Work), Psychology or Politics and International Relations. Open to current students in their first or second year only (going into their 2nd and final year).
All interested students must attend a 30 minute virtual mentoring introduction session, before submitting an application form. Online introduction sessions will run between May – June 2021. The matching process will commence as soon as applications are received, so, earlier applicants will be more likely to get a mentor. However, it is dependent on if we can find a suitable mentor, and so application to this scheme does not guarantee acceptance.
This scheme is run by the Careers & Employability Service. You can visit their Mentoring page for more details and to book onto a session. Deadline to apply: Friday 18th June at 5pm
