Employability Points Scheme:

It is reported that, on average, 83 graduates apply for each graduate job vacancy.

Employers now seek ‘all-rounders’; graduates who have both life and work experience, in addition to a good degree.

The Employability Points Scheme awards ‘points’ for the completion of extra-curricular activities, which later can be redeemed for rewards, such as 3-month paid internships, work experience placements, training sessions and vouchers.

In 2014-15, over 5,100 students earned points with the EP Scheme, whereas the most engaged students benefited from the 567 rewards offered by 130 companies and organisations. These sponsors included Kent County Council, Allianz, Penguin Random House, Historic Dockyard Chatham, Medway Council, Santander Universities and Heart FM.

Get Involved! Get Rewarded!

Civil Service’s 1-week spring placement programme:

The Early Diversity Internship Programme (EDIP) gives first-year undergraduates from diverse backgrounds a sense of what being a Civil Service fast streamer is like.

It puts talented undergraduates on a 1-week placement in a government department. As a successful applicant, you’ll attend network sessions and skills workshops and will shadow a fast streamer as they work.

The EDIP is an ideal way to learn, in a short space of time, if a career in the Civil Service is for you. It’s also a good foundation for applying to the Summer Diversity Internship Programme (SDIP).

Eligibility – You can apply for EDIP if you’re a first-year undergraduate and one or more of the following:

  • from a black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) background (see below)
  • socially or economically disadvantaged
