In the graduate job market, it is now becoming increasingly essential to find ways to stand out from the crowd! Academic success remains imperative, but employers are increasingly looking for more and in particular, soft skills and relevant work experience.

To ensure you gain both these skills and experiences, the University of Kent created the Employability Points (EP) Scheme.

Spaces available: Careers Day at PWRR & Queen’s Museum at Dover Castle

There are still a few places available on tomorrow’s (Friday 12th October) Careers Day at the Princess of Wales’ Royal Regiment and Queen’s Regiment Museum at Dover Castle.

The staff at the PWRR & Queen’s Museum have organised several talks on the heritage sector and a Q&A session, so come with all the questions you have about working in museums and heritage. You’ll also receive free admission to Dover Castle, and have the opportunity in the afternoon to explore the castle, one of the country’s most visited heritage sites.

If you would like to come along, head to TargetConnect to book your place and/or be at Rutherford car park for 9am tomorrow morning. The coach departs at 9.15am (returning to campus at 4.15), and the remaining spaces (currently 7) will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

London Museums of Health and Medicine Open Day

You are cordially invited to this year’s London Museums of Health and Medicine Open Day at 2pm-5pm, 27th October at the British Dental Association.

Hosted by the British Dental Association Museum, the day will be packed with exciting events and activities from more than 10 of London’s best medical museums, including the Science Museum, the Wellcome Collection and the Old Operating Theatre.

The day also includes a performance of ‘The Dentist Will See You Now’. This is a dramatic reconstruction of a lecture by a school dentist in 1910, demonstrating how Edwardian dentists viewed standards of mouth hygiene and cleanliness. The event involves some audience participation! Suitable for ages 7+.

University of Kent Community Scholarships

£1,000 financial support to cover personal expenses and project running costs

The University of Kent is pleased to welcome applications for scholarships from enthusiastic students who are interested in providing opportunities within the local and campus communities.

The Community Scholarship offers students a great way to demonstrate leadership, enthusiasm and organisational skills – essential to future employers.

Criteria

Application is open to all Kent students enrolled at Canterbury or Medway from all stages, disciplines and modes of study. Projects can be related to sport, arts, music, cultural or any other discipline. Successful applications will demonstrate the following:

  • A project brief which exhibits careful thought and planning.
  • An inclusive project which benefits the local or campus community.
  • Demonstrable benefits and outcomes for participants.

Evidence of commitment to past projects completed will also be considered. Each application is considered on its individual merits by the scholarships board.

Employability @ Kent 2018

Yesterday the School held its Employability @ Kent talk for new students, bringing together members of staff from the CES, Kent Union, and the Employability Points scheme to talk about the employability development opportunities available throughout your time at Kent. Extras wanted for WWI film

On 1st-3rd June, 8000ft Media will be shooting a 30 minute historically accurate film about Geoffrey Malins, the cinematographer who helped film the Battle of the Somme, and they would like to invite anyone who is interested to appear as an extra to play a British frontline soldier.

The shoot is taking place at Elham in Kent. Meals and refreshments will be provided, parking is available, and there space for camping if you would like to take part for the entire full weekend.
