Would you like to gain experience within the ecological sector over the summer survey season?
PJC Consultancy is looking for field surveyors to assist with bat surveys over this summer survey season (May-August/September). This would be a paid position on an ad-hoc basis.
- The bat survey window is between May-August (with occasional surveys carried out in September);
- The surveys will be on an ad-hoc basis with the potential to be involved with 1/2 surveys every fortnight, although this is flexible;
- The majority of our bat surveys are in Kent and East Sussex and so the surveyor will need to have access to their own vehicle;
- A typical dusk emergence survey will start 30 minutes before sunset and continue between 1.5-2 hours after sunset;
- A typical dawn re-entry survey will start 1.5-2 hours before sunrise and finish 15 minuets after sunrise;
- Surveys (including travel time) will last between 5-6 hours;
- The majority of our survey sites require 2-4 surveyors – at least 1 surveyor on each survey will be a full-time member of the PJC ecology team;
- We will provide you with all the necessary surveying equipment and training, but they will need to have their own torch, chair and clipboard!
Many students that benefited from this opportunity in previous years have now secured full time ecologist positions, both in the team here at PJC and at other consultancies. We have also worked with students who have now secured positions at prestigious organisations including Animal and Plant Health Agency, Natural England, and Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew, so it is definitely great experience.
If you would like to apply for this opportunity or have any specific questions about any of the above, please contact Hannah Salter hannah@pjcconsultancy.com
Please note Hannah’s working days are Wed, Thu, Fri 8:30 – 16:30.
