As part of your degree, you have the opportunity to study abroad for a term or a year at other universities all over the world, either spending the Autumn term of your final year overseas, or taking a full year out from your degree between Stage 2 and 3.
Competition for places abroad is fierce, and will only be given to students who achieve an average of 60% or higher during the first and second years of their studies. Your term or year abroad is assessed on a pass/fail basis, so your results at your destination institution will not affect your degree result.
Spending time in other countries will help you develop personally, academically, and professionally, and can make you and your degree stand out to employers. To find out more information about how you can study abroad and the benefits of doing so, go to www.kent.ac.uk/goabroad. The Faculty also holds talks at the start and end of each academic year about the study abroad scheme – keep an eye on your emails for more information.
Information and Documentation
The International Partnerships Office has made available a range of presentations, guides, and other documents on different aspects of studying abroad and the factors involved in doing so. You can find these on their website here.
Preparation Modules
All students who are considering studying or working abroad as part of their degree are encouraged to enrol themselves in the module DP6100 Essential Study and Work Abroad Preparation on Moodle. To do this, search for DP6100 on Moodle, and click the ‘Enrol me’ button.
This module will provide practical advice and guide you through the decision-making process of choosing a placement option. It will outline the financial implications and help you to reflect on your own practices as a student at Kent. You will also submit your application to study abroad through this Moodle page.
Boarding Pass
In addition to the DP6100 page, the International Partnerships Office has introduced a study abroad Boarding Pass. This is designed to act as a checklist for your application process, and ensure you have considered, researched, and completed everything you need to before you go abroad. By attending events and doing the tasks on Moodle, you earn stickers for your Pass. Eight stickers, and your Pass is complete.
If you have a complete pass, you can submit it along with a 500-word essay for a chance to win a £500 bursary to spend during your time abroad. Head to www.kent.ac.uk/goabroad/boardingpass to find out more.
