Volunteer Community Engagement Ambassadors

Start date: August and September 2017 with more events planned for later in the year.

We have some fantastic summer events and activities coming up and would be delighted if more volunteers joined us in helping to inspire people in the community to engage with Canterbury Cathedral’s Collections and Archives. These activities are both inside the Cathedral Precinct and at outreach events around the Canterbury District.

You’ll find a list of these events at the very end of this email with more information about where they are taking place and which community groups you’d be working with.

Oral history volunteers for The Memories Project

First training event on 11 September 2017. Interviews and events starting thereafter.

We’re starting to recruit for The Memories Project. The Oral History Interviewer and Oral History Transcriber roles are key to unlocking Canterbury Cathedral’s living community archive. These roles will collate people’s experiences and memories of the Cathedral and city through wide ranging interviews. The interviews will focus on the way the Cathedral has influenced the lives of those interviewed.

Oral History Interviewers will receive training delivered by the University of Kent in how to conduct interviews that allow a person to tell their own story in their own words. Interviewers will also be given basic training in how to use the recording equipment.

Black Prince Conference Registration and welcome volunteers and Conference management and engagement volunteers

15 to 17 November 2017

  • Join us for the Cathedral’s first collections and conservation conference.
  • Be part of an exciting and challenging two days of history and conservation study.
  • Welcome world renowned experts on the Black Prince and 14th century history, as they share their research and knowledge.

This two-day conference will be attended by experts who have undertaken research into the Black Prince, his life, his legacy and material culture.

We are seeking outgoing and enthusiastic volunteers to join the Cathedral volunteer team, to help us make this conference a great success, to spend two days with experts and delegates who have been inspired by the Cathedral’s heritage and historic collections.
