Send a ‘60-second Film’ to the world and you could win 150 Euro!

Are you a student studying at a higher education institution in Europe? Want to show the world why you love studying here?

We are looking for fun, fresh short films that celebrate why it is great to study abroad in Europe.

Your mission is to create a ‘short film’ (60 seconds or less) to show other students around the world what you love about studying in Europe.  We want to know what inspired you to come to Europe and hear about any long-term ambitions you have achieved here or any personal challenges you have overcome while studying in Europe.

Please choose from one or more of the following categories:

  1. Making friends from different countries… introduce us to some of the international friends you have met and tell us why they are so important to you.
  2. Training for your perfect career… how is studying in Europe helping you achieve your aspirations?  What experiences have you had that will help you in the future?
  3. Discovering new cultures… show us how passionate you are about meeting new people and learning about the different cultures across Europe.
  4. Enjoying new hobbies and interests…. Tell us about your new interests you have developed and how they have added to your experience of living in Europe.
  5. Student life… explain to us what student life is like for you.  Do you have any top tips for students thinking about coming to study in Europe?

‘Weekend’ – Open Audition

‘Weekend’, an MA short film, is a drama filmed on DV tape and using improvised performances. This is to be rehearsed, character developed through improvisation, and shot
during the Spring and Summer as well as during some of the Easter break in Canterbury. Please note that the audition will consist of a conversation, some improvisation work, and
that no addition preparation will be needed.
DESCRIPTION
50-year-old Mike visits his daughter Sophie at a university campus to spend the weekend with her. Unfortunately, she has little time for him. Surrounded by young people at an alien
place, Mike wonders around campus and town, attempting to connect with anyone he can – including Sophie’s housemate Mollie, who might be able to make Mike forget about his
loneliness.
ROLES AVAILABLE

FEMALES:
Mollie
Sophie’s housemate and friend, drama student at university, mostly keeps to herself. She meets Sophie’s father Mike and has great conversations with him – they develop a platonic
but intimate relationship.
Anna
Sophie’s other housemate, often around the house.

Sophie’s workplace colleague at a restaurant, out-going, friendly.
MALES:
George + Harry
Two friends offering to accommodate Mike for the weekend at their place. Fun and extroverted, they end up inviting Mike to have a few drinks with them and having a great
time.

CV Competition 2017

Win some work experience!  This is a great chance to develop your CV and build professional contacts. The Careers and Employability Service CV Competition is now open for 2017.

The CV Competition offers students the chance to win one of a number of 2 week work experience placements on offer during the summer vacation. The good news is that the majority of the experiences are funded at £300 per week!

The exact timing of these roles will be decided between the winning student and the employer.

Apply now for V&A Theatre and Performance Work Experience Placements 2016/17

The V&A Department of Theatre and Performance contains the UK’s National Collection of Performing Arts. The collections are vast, covering all areas of live performance from theatre, opera and ballet, to music hall and musical theatre, circus, puppetry, and rock and pop.

  • Departmental activity is divided into curatorial work (based at Blythe House, Olympia) and exhibitions, publications and potential web-content (based at V&A South Kensington).
  • Exhibitions-based work includes the development of the permanent Theatre and Performance
  • Galleries at the V&A and a broad programme of special exhibitions, both at the V&A and on tour.

Voluntary Work Experience Placements and Training: Exhibitions

The Exhibitions side of the Department offers a small number of volunteer and graduate placements, for career development, training and research.

  • Volunteers assist with research and interpretation, exhibition development, publications, potential web content and other outputs.
  • Volunteers have access to professional development training and experience, both at the V&A and at other relevant institutions and organisations in London, such as theatres, museums and other arts institutions.
  • Work is varied and rewarding, and allows volunteers to contribute to the work of one of the UK’s flagship cultural institutions.

The next placements will be within the period from March – October 2017.

Ambassador Theatre Group’s Graduate Scheme Open for Applications!

ATG are looking for two motivated, ambitious and talented individuals to take part in an inspiring two-year programme, fast-tracking their career as future leaders of the theatre industry.

With 38 theatres in the UK, ATG offers a unique insight into commercial theatre management and venue operations. Trainees will develop a thorough understanding of the UK theatre industry through challenging placements in ATG’s renowned presenting theatres as well as its offices in London and Woking.

Through this scheme ATG seeks to nurture exceptional leaders, equipping them to take up future managerial positions in the company. The first year of the programme includes placements in regional and London venues and our Head Offices to develop a broad understanding of our business, followed by two six-month placements in the second year during which trainees take responsibility for crucial projects. You can find some examples of the work undertaken by previous trainees below.

Trainees take part in our internal leadership development programme, Rising Stars; this programme aims to grow a new generation of talented leaders for the business and trainees will work alongside other exceptional individuals identified from within the company.

Trainees also complete a wide variety of short training courses and have a coaching relationship with a senior member of ATG staff. Reflection is a key aspect of the scheme and trainees are pushed to take charge of their own development.

On completing the scheme, the intention is that trainees have an excellent understanding of the company’s current operation and potential, and are both skilled managers and inspiring leaders. This is a rare opportunity for those determined to forge a career in theatre management and make a real impact on ATG’s UK business.

The Ash Project – Call for Volunteers

The Ash Project is an urgent cultural response to the devastating effects of Ash dieback in Kent and across the country. The project combines a major new commission by internationally recognised artists Ackroyd and Harvey with a wide ranging community engagement programme, an online archive and a plan for landscape restoration. The project will celebrate the cultural, natural and social history of the Ash Tree, creating an extraordinary enduring legacy for future generations. The project has been funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and Arts Council England.

 

Documentation Assistant (1-2 people)

We would like to work with a film student to document Ackroyd and Harvey research trips, the production process of making the artwork, school projects and community events. Travel Expenses will be covered for any trips, or car sharing /lifts can be arranged. This work will be scheduled throughout the year and may involve an opportunity to be involved in training with professional documentary film makers who may work to shape the footage to create a permanent record for the project. This position is not paid.

Research Team (3-4 people)

Documenting the Human atlas of Ash across Kent and the UK and researching the social history of Ash, this project may involve a trip to the National Archive and libraries throughout Kent. This project will involve a great deal of initiative, independent research skills and will be based in sites across Kent and will involve collating this research into material for an ongoing Ash Archive. This opportunity would be suitable for History of Art, Fine Art, Drama, Photography and Curating students. Students will be responsible for their own travel. This position is not paid.

Website Assistant (1-2 people)

Working to collate texts, arrange images and coordinate research to be uploaded on to the Ash website. This project will require a person with a creative mind who is good at clearly organising information. We imagine this might be suitable for History of Art, Writing or Curating students, though we are happy to hear from anyone interested.  Students will be responsible for their own travel and you will need to be able to get to the Kent Downs offices in East Brabourne. This position is not paid.
