Kent Sport Tennis Roadshow

The Kent Sport Development Team are busy visiting local schools this month to promote the University’s top class sports facilities available to the local community.

As we know, lockdown was tough on most people with our young perhaps being among the worst affected. To aid in their recovery, the Sports Development team is out on the road to promote the physical and mental health benefits of being active, learning new skills, and making new friends, focussing on specific benefits around general communication, confidence, problem-solving, dealing with disappointments, and the release of anxiety!

So far the team have visited Blean and Joy Lane schools, with further visits planned to Hernhill and Wincheap later this month.

Not only are the team venturing out, but they are also working to welcome schools to our very own Kent Indoor Tennis and Events Arena for the School’s Tennis Festival with Wickhambreux, St Johns, Canterbury Primary School, Aylesham and Langton all booked so far! Of course, with the Kent Indoor Tennis and Events Arena housing four new acrylic tennis courts, we have plenty of space to accommodate more schools, so if you’d like to be involved, it’s not too late. Simply contact our Tennis Development Manager, Nick Skelton, who will be happy to get you booked in.

So far our roadshow has reached over 600 children! That’s not good enough for us though, as we aim to reach around 1700 pupils by the end with initiatives, such as training secondary school students to become LTA Tennis Leaders! Our team’s aim is to get students to try everything, empowering them to choose the activities they most enjoyed, and continue to thrive, staying active and healthy, no matter what their current ability or confidence level is.

In addition to our roadshow, we have an outstanding SummerZone Multi-Sport and Activity Camp, for ages 5-12, which is filling up fast, and Nick is running a tennis coaching programme in the Indoor Tennis and Events Arena for all ages of children and adults, no matter their ability level.

Our team are always happy to talk about new opportunities or answer any questions you have, simply email Nick at: n.skelton@kent.ac.uk
