Get inspired to develop and succeed as a sustainable business leader.
Join us for our next MBA Guest Lecture Series event focused on sustainable business taking place via Zoom on Friday 25 November from 12.30 – 14.00 (GMT)
This interactive virtual event will be led by Kent MBA Leaders in Sustainability Scholars Nicholas Phillips, Manish Shah and James Havey, who will each give a short presentation on what they do and how they drive sustainability in their careers. You will be able to ask them questions afterwards, in a 15-minute panel discussion.
After this, we will be joined by our special guest speaker:
Grace Smith, Environment Specialist Consultant
Grace will be sharing some of her insights into the world of ESG, green finance and climate change solutions.
Grace is committed to climate change mitigation and adaptation. With experience working on a diverse range of international climate change adaptation and waste management policies and frameworks, she has been acting as a consultant for the Ministry of Environment in Cambodia. She has experience working towards policies on waste management and urban planning, with particular focus on environmental education around plastic pollution.
Not only has she worked on systems thinking, co-creation programme design and implementation, research design, and analysis, behaviour change and communications, and programme and staff management, but she also brings this experience together in a way few people can. For example, what she learned in Ethiopia and Congo – and her years as project manager across South East Asia – are helping her create a strategy and programme that will address mismanagement of waste in Phnom Penh, Cambodia and sustainably-designed alternative solutions.
There will be further Q&A session with Grace at the end of her presentation.
Our Scholars alongside MBA Director, Debbie Kemp will welcome a global live audience, bringing together our community of MBA students, alumni, and the broader community of business leaders.
There will also be a chance to submit questions to the panel during the Q&A. Join us and see what the MBA Guest Lecture Series has to offer.

The panellists
Nicholas Phillips
Nicholas’ work has centred around providing energy saving technology for large UK energy users. He currently works for E.ON Controls Solutions as a Sales Manager and is interested to see how data and the IoT (Internet of things) can help to elevate the role of energy efficiency in the fight against climate change. 90% of the world’s data was generated in the last two years so making the most of this data will be both a challenge and an opportunity.
Manish Shah
Manish has worked in the risk management space in financial services and management consulting for most of his career (around 20 years). This entails helping the organisation use risk management as a way of increasing the chances of achieving its strategic objectives. It also ties into the topic of sustainability in the lens of considering longer-term strategic implications, not just financial viability, but also to customers, colleagues, community and the planet as well.
James Havey
James is an award-winning, global, anti-modern slavery researcher, employability specialist, and human rights advocate who has worked to promote sustainable practices in trafficking survivor client care and globalised procurement. Most recently, he is a Procurement Executive with a SaaS company called Social Value Portal, working with cross-sector partners to imbed social and environmental sustainability measures in their purchasing activities.
