Thames Barge trip from Whitstable

Excursion: For our next excursion we will join the historic barge Greta, sailing from Whitstable into the Thames Estuary. Depending in the weather and the tides, we hope to sail out to the WW2 Maunsell forts and/or the Kentish Flats wind farm.

What do I need to know:

The Greta website has lots of information about the trip. In particular, please check out the what to wear and Covid-19 pages. Please note that Greta passengers board and disembark at their own risk via a near vertical ladder attached to the Harbour wall. Passengers must ensure that they wear suitable clothing and flat footwear. A safety briefing is given on board prior to sailing.

FAQs

What do I need to wear?

You should wear casual comfortable clothes, usually jeans/casual trousers/shorts and casual tops. A pair of non-slippery deck shoes are essential. We recommend that you also bring a lightweight, waterproof jacket/fleece. For those hot sunny days, don’t forget your hat, sun cream & sun glasses. Passengers often bring a good book to read along with a camera.

What will be do about food and drink?

You need to bring your own food and drink (no alcohol).

What adaptations have been made in light of Covid-19?

Passengers will remain outside on deck and there will not be access to the cabin. People from different households should remain 2m apart. The toilet will be open with enhanced hygeine measures in place. For fuill details please check out the Greta’s Covid-19 page.

How can I get to Whitstable?

We will coordinate travel from Canterbury to Whitstable nearer the time. We are likely to travel together on the bus or by car. If we travel by bus, don’t forget your face mask.
