Alumni Pub Nights – November 2017

Alumni Pub Nights, the new social and networking series for Kent alumni and students, will take place in local pubs in Canterbury or London on the last Tuesday on the month every two months and we would love you to join us! The events aim to bring together alumni, students and staff from a range of disciplines with each night themed to different subjects surrounding workplace skills, networks and employability opportunities. Events could include speakers, or they may be geared to people interested in a particular sector or skillset, but all events will be a great opportunity for you to meet up with local alumni to network and think about your future.

 The next event will be at the Miller’s Arms in Canterbury on 28 November from 18.00 – 20.00. Meet TeachFirst’s Graduate Recruitment Officer and former teacher, Ross Cooper, who will lead a short, interactive discussion on working in education and teaching. This is a great chance for budding teachers to meet up to find out more about the profession and meet others who are interested in education. Film/Media Opportunity

A current postgraduate Law student here at University of Kent needs support with a short project she is working on that involves vlogs, podcasts and video shoots.

The v-log, or podcast, or video would be a way to lead people to go to the blog. It does not have to be very technical or graphic, but professional and well projected would be great.

Acting Opportunity

Emily Whitebread is a visual artist based in Margate (an associate of a organisation called Open School East).

Emily is in the final process of writing a script for an exhibition which will take place on the 24th (evening), 25th and 26th November at an undisclosed location in Margate.

Emily is looking for a female actor who she will be able to work with to perform live during the exhibition. The piece is about the exploration of a human tongue and the stomach. It is a monologue and the piece would have to be learnt. Professional experience is not needed but they need to have an interest in the avant-garde and an enthusiasm for experimentation.They would also need to be available for rehearsals before the exhibition (TBD).

Emily says she has worked with actors and acrobats in the past and is very open to collaboration and interpretation. Please look at her website for her CV and examples of previous Work (in particular Cosmic Tissue).

Emily can pay £100 + travel.

The local Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI) in Whitstable are looking for support to update their educational lifeboat DVD, which is presented to children in local schools. The members needs support with filming and editing the 10 minute DVD.

Casting Call

An actor (male or female) is needed for an on-campus production of a short film, which will be supported by Kent Filmmakers Society.

The actor will need to portray emotions of anxiety and shock, and all the further details about the story will be revealed at the auditions. The rehearsals will take place at the end of next week.

The shoot is likely to take around 1-2 days during the first two weeks of October.

Attention Year 2 and Post Graduate Drama students!

School of Arts Front of House Staff Required!

We are currently looking for Front of House staff to work as ushers here on University Campus for School of Arts’ performances and events. This is an opportunity for year 2 and postgraduate drama students only. This is a paid role and we also provide training for it. Most of the events will be the Drama assessments that are open to the public that take place towards the end of each term. You will need to be available for the Autumn, Spring and Summer term events. This is a fantastic opportunity to get to see other students’ work as well as some professional work too. In addition to training – which looks great on your CV – it’s also a source of income alongside your studies. We will also supply you with a Polo Shirt.

We will ensure that your shifts do not clash with your timetables and you will get your rota up to 4 weeks in advance. If you are interested, please have a look at the person specification and details on how to apply for this role…

Person Specification:

–Must be available for training on Thursday 12st October 2017 between 12pm-2pm in the Aphra Theatre

-Eligible to work in the UK

-Must be available to work evenings and potentially weekends

The venue is at capacity and you cannot let them in. On telling them this they start to get upset and disruptive. Royal Society of British Artists

The Royal Society of British Artists is offering a scholarship in Rome for one month in July 2018.

This prestigious award is open to artists aged 35 years or under.

We are offering 20 semi-finalists the opportunity to exhibit some work in our ‘RBA RISING STARS’ show at the Framers Gallery in central London and the 3 finalists will also have work shown in the RBA Annual Exhibition at the Mall Galleries, where the winner will be announced.
