We hope you all had a brilliant summer and are ready for a new and exciting year.

We have been busy updating your facilities over the summer…

  • The Digital Suite in Jarman 4 has now been extended and includes 5 new work stations and 2 new projectors as well as new digital Canon cameras
  • The Aphra has been updated with a new sound system and new curtains
  • New curtains have also been installed in the Lumley as well as more LED lights

We invite you to the first of our new series The Total Work, where leading academics from the School of Arts are invited to give brief talks linking our current exhibition to their areas of research. In this first instalment we welcome Melissa Trimingham (Drama), Lawrence Jackson (Film) and Michael Newall (History of Art) who will be exploring topics ranging from Josef Albers and colour, to the music and theatre of Bauhaus parties, to how German Expressionism influenced early Hollywood.

Student Promoters for the Canterbury Festival

Become a Canterbury Festival Promoter!

Canterbury Festival takes over the city every October. It is Kent’s International Arts Festival and hosts over 200 events in the space of 3 weeks including live music, comedy, cabaret, theatre, circus, dance and talks.

The Festival is looking for Student Promoters to help spread the word about the festival which launches in July and runs from 15 Oct – 5 Nov 2016.

Organisers are looking for outgoing, self-motivated, media savvy students who love the arts and want to share this with a far reaching network of friends and contacts. You will be distributing posters and brochures around campus in late September and promoting our events to your mates through innovative media relevant to the student market both for fun, and for events related to your degrees. In return promoters are offered:

A pair of tickets for two different core Festival events of your choice

  • An opportunity to come and see how the Festival is run (a tour of the offices, meet the team and join the Festival focus group)
  • Reference

If you are currently in your second year of studies or above, and would like to become a promoter for the Canterbury Festival 2016 please contact Rachel@canterburyfestival.co.uk no later than Friday 25 March 2016.

Mark Kermode, In Conversation

As part of the ‘In Conversation’ series the Chancellor, Dr Gavin Esler, will be hosting a relaxed discussion with the UK’s leading film critic, Mark Kermode, concluding in a Q&A session of pre-selected audience questions held in Woolf Lecture Theatre. Attendance is free of charge.

After the talk, there will be a ticketed High Table Dinner with Mark Kermode and the Chancellor with tickets priced at £45.00 per person. The ticket price includes a pre-dinner drinks reception, a three-course dinner with coffee and half a bottle of wine per person. Money raised from the sale of tickets for this part of the event will go towards the Kent Opportunity Fund.
