Wednesday 29th May saw the seventh instalment of the Mike Wilkins Charity Football Match, between Kent F.C. 1st XI and the College Elect squad.
Spectators were asked to make a £2.50 contribution to the British Heart Foundation on entry in exchange for a match day programme and entry into the half-time raffle, with prizes donated from both Kent Sport and Kent Hospitality respectively. The final sum raised for the charity was £303.55, which was £39.55 more than the previous year!
The first half was evenly matched and despite going a goal behind to captain Stefan Wolf’s penalty, the Elect came back to equalise through outgoing Rutherford Raiders captain Liam Wallis. Kent F.C. then re-took the lead with a fine goal from Marcus Jones and at 2-1 things looked poised for a tense second half.
However, the second half proved to be nothing like as close as the first and Kent F.C. went on to re-claim the trophy with a commanding second half performance. Three goals from graduating third year students Marcus Jones (who was also named Man of the Match), Sheldon Sellears and Tommy Parkinson meant that Kent F.C. ended the game with a convincing 5-1 score line.
