The nomination was received from Richard Cottam, Head of FM in recognition of the initiative and effort involved in reducing the Estates offsite storage to zero, which has resulted in a significant financial saving for both the Estates Department and the University.

Charlie Champion – Apprentice Plumber/Fitter
The nomination was received from Gary Richardson, Maintenance Stores Supervisor in recognition of Charlie’s dedication, problem solving and unique design of the self-service kiosk in the maintenance stores.

The nomination was received from a member of staff in the School of Engineering and Digital Arts in recognition of the high standard of work provided, the team often go above and beyond to ensure the facilities provided are in good working order and doing so in a polite and cheerful way.

Neil Hopkins, Design and Print Centre
The nomination was received from Daniel Harding, Deputy Director of Music in recognition of Neil’s creative vision and assistance in creating and designing the termly music brochure and various promotional materials.
In awarding the Customer Services Award the Senior Management Team, acknowledge the impact Neil has made to a customer on behalf of the Estates Department and the reputation of the University.

Opening of the School of Anthropology and Conservation entrance extension

The works consisted of a new entrance extension on the east and west sides of Marlowe Building creating a focal point for the school, incorporating new egg shaped meeting rooms, 12 new offices, a new reception and admin office, and breakout social spaces for staff, students and visitors.

A new featured staircase and internal living wall have been installed in the new space to create a focal point and the planting used has been carefully selected to work internally and also reflect elements of the course curriculum.

The whole project was designed in-house and project managed by Neil Hornsey.

The project cost £1.2million and was completed in 7 months and formally opened by Karen Cox on 7th November, 2017.

Rebecca Medlock – Help Desk Operator.     This nomination was received from Wayne Wheeler, Maintenance Section, for providing admin support to him, whilst maintaining Help Desk services at a time when the Help Desk was under resourced.

We are supporting MIND

The total amount raised from the Estates Christmas Charity Raffle 2017 was £970, and with further monies added to it which have been accrued over the year, the charity – MIND (nominated by Emily Mason) will receive a cheque for an Estates record-breaking £1834.14!

Well done to everyone who bought raffle tickets and donated money to this worthwhile cause.  Also, a huge thank you to everyone who helped to make the raffle event happen.

MIND provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. They campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding.   https://www.mind.org.uk/about-us/

Recycling Hub – Grand Opening

The grand opening of our Recycling Hub took place on the 6th of November, in attendance were the team who helped to create the Recycling Hub together with the skip waste contractors, East Kent Recycling.

The Recycling Hub allows us to safely store and manage recyclable materials, such as wooden pallets and separate non processed woods such as timber. Our recycling percentages have been increasing year on year with our 2016-2017 percentage being 67%, this is 5% higher than 2015-2016!

All users of the Recycling Hub are required to sign and return the acknowledgement form found in the Recycling Hub User Guide, the guide has been distributed to Estates staff who will be using the site. If you have not received one please contact the FM Coordinator estatesfmcoordinator@kent.ac.uk or visit Emma Dimond, Room G26 to collect one. Once completed the form needs to be returned to the FM Coordinator.

Children in Need – Cake Sale

Thank you to all of you who made or donated cakes and goodies for this year’s Children in Need Cake Bake, and to everyone who gave money. I am pleased to announce that we have raised the fantastic amount of £238.05!

Thanks also to the Safety, Health & Environment Unit as they raised £33 which they have put together with our amount, making a grand total of £271.05!
