Excursion: For our next excursion we will follow a section of the North Downs Way from Chilham to Canterbury. We will walk through fields and woods, small villages, a community orchard and the Iron Age hill fort at Bigbury Camp.
Date: Friday 28 February 2020
Meeting time: 11.50am
Meeting place: outside Canterbury West Railway Station
Number of participants: 8
Walking distance: 12km
Duration: approximately 3-4 hours walking, plus train travel from Canterbury to Chilham
What do I need to know:
The North Downs Way is mainly a muddy path through woods, orchards and fields. In some places the route is on paved country lanes, but it is mostly unsurfaced paths.
We will get the train at 12.05 from Canterbury West to Chilham – we will buy train tickets at 11.55, so if you want us to buy your train ticket, please arrive before then.
From Chilham station we will walk uphill to the North Downs Way and back to Canterbury, via Old Wives Lees, No Man’s Orchard and Chartham Hatch. The total distance will be around 12km. There are no shops or cafes on route, so please bring any food and drink you think you might need. Check the weather forecast, be sceptical, and make sure you’re appropriately dressed too.
