We will be joined by representatives from Charityworks, Smart Thinking, Porchlight, education charity WEA, PACT, Young Lives Foundation, Citizens Advice, United Nations, NATO and the European Commission.

Careers in Think Tanks: Careers talk by Emily Reading from smartthinking.org ‘Why and how you can start a career in think tanks’, Monday 7th February, 3pm – 4pm
Emily Redding is the Founder of Smart Thinking, the first online platform bringing together all the UK think tanks with their research, events and jobs. After establishing a jobs board in 2019 Smart Thinking is now the go-to place for all job and internship opportunities in the think tank sector. Alongside this they have built up a career resources bank of information on the think tank and wider policy sector. Emily will be discussing what a career in think tanks might look like, the different roles open within it and how to put yourself in the best position to apply.

Careers in an Education charity; WEA organisation talk , Tuesday 8th February, 1pm-2pm
The session will overview some of the key skills and attributes needed to work in the charity Education sector. The session will use WEA, adult learning within reach, as a case study of how organisational cross working is vital in ensuring that the most disadvantaged in our society have access to education. We will look at the different pathways into the Education charity, the importance of adaptability, and identify transferable skills from a range of degrees that are pivotal to a successful career.

Working in Charities; Diversity Focused Projects: Graysen Whittaker from Porchlight, Thursday 10th February, 1pm- 2pm
Graysen Whittaker (they/them) is a trans non-binary person who works for the charity Porchlight They are the LGBT+ Service Development Manager for this organisation and work on LGBT+ inclusion as well as supporting the LGBT+ young people centred project that Porchlight runs, called the Be You Project.
Graysen is speaking around how being LGBT+ is an asset to their work rather than something that holds them back, or causes fear in the workplace.
Graysen wants to encourage all LGBT+ young people to be their authentic selves and feel safe in their workplaces and educational settings, in relation to their LGBT+ identity.

Charityworks and Careers in the Third Sector, Friday 11th February, 11am – 12pm
In this session, Charityworks will briefly explore our talent programme and the opportunities it gives to graduates in the third sector. We will then in more detail discuss what type of roles are available in the charity sector; what skills, competencies and values organisations look for when hiring graduates; how graduates can develop these specific skills, for example where to find volunteering roles; and lastly, we will dive into the sector’s key trends and themes, and what sources you can use to improve your knowledge
