Interested in finding out whether a career in the public sector could be for you? Do you want to learn more about what roles exist within this sector? Or to find out about how to stand out when applying for public sector grad schemes?

Then come along to our online Careers in the Public Sector Week from 29 November – 3 December!

Throughout the week, we will be joined by a range of Kent alumni and employers, including local councils, the Civil Service, the Office for National Statistics, and Teach First. Events will include: insight talks from employers; presentations on how to succeed in landing graduate roles; advice on asking for reasonable adjustments when making applications; and a panel discussion on careers in teaching.

All events will be virtual and hosted on either MS Teams or Zoom. The programme is open to all students, regardless of degree subject.

You can also earn 10 Employability Points by attending each event, which can be redeemed later in the year for exclusive rewards.

Careers in Local Government Panel – Join our virtual panel event to hear from Kent alumni and other professionals to find out about their roles and further opportunities in Local Government

Tuesday 30 November

Careers in the Public sector focused on accessibility – Digital Accessibility is a fast growing industry focussed on helping everyone get access and be able to use online services.
This talk will focus on what the digital accessibility sector is, what kinds of skill sets being aware of digital accessibility requirements can improve and the breadth of job roles this affects. By learning about digital accessibility and incorporating relevant skills for your desired career path you can add another string to your bow when it comes to standing out from other applicants.

Wednesday 1 December

Careers in the Civil Service – Join us for an online chat with alumni from the social science subjects at Kent who are now working in the Civil Service. Our alumni are able to share invaluable information about their roles as well as Fast Stream recruitment advice through open, honest dialogue with the students who attend. At this event, we aim to highlight the range of careers within the Civil Service, helping you envision possibilities for yourself you may never have considered

Thursday 2 December

Teach First developing your skills for teacher training applications – Leading teacher Training programme company Teach First will be giving an insight in to how to develop application forms for Teacher training programmes which includes how to write a winning application

18.00-19.00

Teaching as a Career – Panel Event – Teaching is a popular Career. During this panel event hear first-hand from a number of teachers about their experiences of teaching and how they got into the field, as well as a chance for a Q&A session

Friday 3 December

Working in the Youth Justice Service: making a positive change in our community – This session will cover:

  • ‘How does the Youth Justice Service work?’
  • ‘How do we work with the young people?’
  • ‘What is a Child First approach to Youth Justice?’
  • What is a Referral Order and what happens at a Referral Order Panel?’
  • ‘What role does Restorative Justice play in the Youth Offending Service?’
  • ‘What are the opportunities for volunteering in the Youth Justice Service while I’m a student?’
