English Heritage cares for over 400 historic monuments, buildings and places. Through these, we bring the story of England to life for over 10 million visitors each year.

No matter what you do or where you do it, by joining us you’ll be playing a vital role in looking after some of the greatest places in England so that they can be enjoyed today and for generations to come. You’ll find it’s a workplace like no other – taking you behind the scenes of these extraordinary sites and supporting you to share your ideas, inspire others and make a difference.

Walmer Castle and Gardens is a Tudor artillery fort on the Kent coast near Deal. In the 18th Century, the castle became the official residence of the Lords Warden of the Cinque Ports and has since developed into a comfortable country house with extensive Grade II Listed gardens and its own stretch of environmentally significant shingle beach.

With a range of beautiful and interesting areas available to hire, Walmer Castle now hosts a full and diverse calendar of third-party engagements, including a year-round Wellbeing at Walmer offer, community action and activity days, and open-air theatre throughout the summer months. As Programming Officer, you will have the opportunity to oversee and develop this programme of engagement, helping us provide unique and positive experiences that inspire visitors, promote community involvement, and provide a healthy financial return to help English Heritage conserve England’s heritage for the future.

The duties of the Programming Officer will centre around:

1. Management of stakeholder relationships

2. Administration

3. Budget management and achieving KPIs

4. Management of Health & Safety and Risk Assessment

5. Assisting with the delivery of third-party engagements

We are looking for someone with the ability to develop strong and productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, maintain robust administrative processes, and work collaboratively with colleagues across departments, whilst consistently delivering excellent customer service to our visitors and clients.

If you would like to talk to us about this role before you apply, please contact Hannah West, Community Engagement Coordinator, at Hannah.West@english-heritage.org.uk . We would be delighted to hear from you.
