Get Involved! – Join the Student Union and clubs and societies that interest you as employers like to see you have got involved and have other interests. It will look good on your CV and can help to develop skills especially if you are on the committee or are involved in organising/running the society.

Work experience – The number one thing employers are looking for and will make your CV stand out. Working part-time will give you transferrable skills you can use in a graduate job, or apply for insight days, internships or virtual internships to start developing your skills and enhance your CV and LinkedIn profile.

  • Rate my Placement  – for Insight days, virtual internships, internships and placements.
  • Employability Points Scheme – earn points for getting involved in student life, joining a society, attending events, volunteering etc and use the points to apply for work experience opportunities, internships and prizes specifically for Kent students.
  • LinkedIn  – Book sessions run by the Careers Service on setting up and using LinkedIn via Target Connect
  • Arts and Humanities Employability blog – for the latest events,  opportunities, internships and virtual internships

Volunteering is a great way to develop your skills and looks good on your CV

Personal or industry related projects – Carry out an activity to develop your skills and knowledge in a particular area.

Examples:

 

  • Produce a short documentary or film to develop your video-editing skills
  • Write a Vlog or Blog about something you are passionate about i.e. Film or book reviews, short stories, Video games
  • Start a Podcast or YouTube Channel
  • Learn a new skill i.e. learn a new language, Python, Excel or build a video game
