Aspiring writers, journalists and opera/theatre critics, read this!

Deadline 13th August, 11:59pm

The English National Opera (ENO) runs a unique writing scheme called ENO Response where they recruit members of the general public who are aspiring writers, journalists and opera/theatre critics.

ENO Response is run across the 2023/24 opera season at the London Coliseum (September 2023-March 2024), and it offers budding writers the opportunity to attend opening night performances (for free!), review world-class opera in London’s West End, and network with industry professionals.

They’re seeking 8-10 passionate writers who would like to develop their critical writing skills and learn about the journalism industry over an opera season. Knowledge of opera isn’t essential, but a strong desire to learn about it is!

Responders receive writing advice and feedback from industry mentors (journalists from: The Times, The i, Financial Times, Evening Standard and other national publications) through tailored one-to-one sessions, build a portfolio of work, and see their reviews published on the ENO website. They also have access to unique masterclasses to learn about journalism and bringing opera to the stage.

Applicants from across the UK are encouraged to apply, and reasonable travel expenses to and from reviewed performances will be reimbursed. Applicants must be over the age of 18 (and up to 118!). All masterclasses and mentoring sessions are conducted online.
