Social Media Volunteer wanted for Canterbury Repair Cafe

Canterbury Repair Cafe

They are also always looking for volunteers with craft and repair skills, as well as people to help with admin and meet and greet.

Canterbury Repair Cafe is a voluntary organisation formed under the auspices of Canterbury Climate Action Partnership (CCAP). The aims of the Repair Cafe are to help reduce the waste mountains arising through our contemporary lifestyles, by repairing things rather than throwing them away. As a consequence, fewer new things need to be bought, thereby reducing all the carbon emissions, pollution and other environmental damage caused by making new products. This also saves money too!

Canterbury Repair Cafe is run and staffed by volunteers who give their time for free and all the repairs and advice are provided for free too. One of the serendipitous benefits is the great pleasure and delight that people have in helping each other, and being helped, and the community bonds that are developing in the process. The ethos of the repair cafe is that everyone is learning in the process, and that the ‘customer’ is helped to understand how to repair their own things — building skills and knowledge all the time.

We have a particular need for someone to help raise our social media profile, by posting events on Instagram and Facebook etc, and also posting photos of events, making and posting video interviews with our volunteers and customers etc. I imagine that this role could occupy between one hour per week on average up to a maximum of around one day per month — spread across the whole month, but focussed around event dates.

We are also always looking for volunteers with craft and repair skills, as well as people to help with admin and meet and greet.
