PG Week: Discover Project Management, 12:00-13:00, Online

Ever wondered what project management really is, and where projects happen? Whatever your degree, join Association for Project Management’s insight session where you can discover more about this important skill, listen to people who’ve delivered projects, get your questions answered and, yes, find out how much you can earn. This session is aimed at Postgraduate students.

Study Plus – Time Management by Alvin Ramsamy, 12:30-14:30, Online

Time management:

· What it is and why it is important

· Common barriers to good time management

· Understand different types of time management issues, strategies, techniques and tools to address these

· Know what your own time management issues are

· Leave with practical plan specific to your needs

Tuesday 7 June

Interview Skills and Tips with Intel, 11:00-12:00, Online

This session will give you an insight into how to successfully prepare for an interview, how to stand out to hiring managers and how to best speak about your skills and experience.

We will also detail the opportunities Intel offers undergraduates, such as a chance for growth and learning while working with industry-leading innovation. We offer 13-month internships in a range of disciplines within our Swindon, Marlow and Basingstoke sites. Interns are an integral part of the Intel family – you can be sure that your achievements will be recognized here.

PG Week: Writing CVs and cover letters for Postgrads, 13:00-14:00, Online

This session is aimed at current or recent taught postgraduates.

If you haven’t applied for professional jobs recently, or you are looking to update your CV, this talk covers the fundamentals of:

· What should go into a CV

· Creating a positive impact

· Constructing your covering letter

PG Week: Working in research outside of academia, 17:00-18:00, Online

Are you interested in a career in research, but outside of academia? Have you undertaken a master’s and you are wondering how you can use your research skills in industry? Join our alumni panel who will discuss their careers within research and how they have used their skills from their master’s, as well as a Q&A to answer any of your questions.

The panel will be made up of Kent alumni who have previously undertaken a master’s and are now working in research, including:

· Sean Janion, Senior Research Analyst at Chambers and Partners, International Law LLM alumnus

· Sophie Hughes, Research Associate at Clinical Outcomes Solutions, Cognitive Psychology / Neuropsychology MSc alumnus

· Estela Carmona Cejudo, Research Engineer at i2CAT Foundation, PhD Electronic Engineering and MSc Broadband and Mobile Communication Networks

Wednesday 8 June

PG Week: Postgraduate taster session at the Kent Community Oasis Garden, 11:00-13:00, Meet at Careers and Employability Service Building, Canterbury Campus

Open to Postgraduate students only.

Come and discover the Kent Community Oasis Garden situated at Parkwood. Come along for a 2-hour session at the garden to find out more about the project and get stuck into some gardening yourselves with a taster guided activity. Tea and biscuits provided!

Note: Please make sure you are wearing comfortable, flat footwear that is as sturdy as possible. We have some wellington boots available to borrow but these are limited in size and numbers.

PG Week: Becoming an Academic, 12:30-13:30, Online

Join Professor Paul Allain, Dean of the Graduate and Researcher College and Professor of Theatre and Performance, who will be sharing insights into becoming an academic.

By attending this talk, you will learn:

· What do academics really do?

· Routes to doing PhD or further study

· Academic pipeline – different academic career paths, e.g. Research Assistant, postdocs etc.

PG Week: Teacher Training Opportunities for Postgrads with Teach First, 14:00-15:00, Online

Becoming a teacher is a big choice. Attend this talk to learn more about how you can make a difference and why Teach First may be the best route for you. This is a great way to see how you can use your skills and your degree and give back to a community that needs it.

As you approach graduation and start preparing for your next steps, including interviews, this session will cover common interview questions and how to approach them, including competency, strengths based and motivational questions. The session will also look at steps to take to prepare for an interview, helping you to feel more confident for the real thing! This session is aimed at Postgraduate students.
