This blog was originally set up by the following at the University of Kent:

  • Ray Laurence was Professor of Roman History and Archaeology at the University of Kent (2010-2017). His research focusses on cities, children, Pompeii, and roads in the Roman Empire.
  • Julia Peters, who studied Roman History and Archaeology at Kent, before commencing a PhD in 2015. She completed a 80 day walk from Canterbury to Rome in 2015 – see her blog for details.
  • Jeff Veitch researched soundscapes in Roman cities for his PhD at the University of Kent – see his blog for details. He also managed a website on sensory studies in the Greek and Roman world – Sensory Studies in Antiquity.
  • Paula Lock is researching the bars of Pompeii, Herculaneum and Ostia for her PhD at the University of Kent. Her twitter feed @PaulaLock5 contains much about the Roman world.

We would like to thank all at TED.ED and Cognitive for their on-going support and permission to use content from the films in this blog.
