Academic Skills Support

WriteRight

WriteRight! is a non-credit academic skills programme designed to help you throughout your degree. The programme includes weekly online workshops (run by Professor Tim Strangleman and Dr Triona Fitton) in addition to the materials on the Moodle page.

Developing Academic Skills in Social work

Through a number of sessions we aim to assist your adjustment to postgraduate study. In term one, we will offer four sessions (plus an introductory one in Welcome Week) to focus on the vital skills necessary for postgraduate study, including reading and literature use, referencing/avoiding plagiarism, essay writing at PG level, introductions and conclusions.

Socrates Society

Socrates is the School of Social policy, Sociology and Social research’s (SSPSSR) own academic student society and your go-to when it comes extra-curricular activities.

Socrates will host all SSPSSR students at all stages of their academic development at regular social events, guest lectures, off-campus activities, and the Winterball and End-of-year-Socra-Fest, all in order to help you find your place within your field of study and at the University of Kent in general.

We’ll provide all SSPSSR students extra opportunities to engage with their fields of study and will function as a platform on which you can meet fellow social sciences students outside of your seminar rooms. We will, in collaboration with the student societies, provide you with an overview of events on offer on and around campus. Socrates will introduce you to everything being a University of Kent student entails, and I look forward to meeting you.
