Postgraduate research degree vivas continue at Kent Law School, despite the lockdown, with five PhD scholars each successfully defending their doctoral thesis online in the last few weeks – our warmest congratulations to all!
Edward Fairhead
Edward Fairhead passed his PhD*, with minor corrections.
- The title of Ed’s thesis: “The Society of the Anti-Spectacle: The Visuality of Drone Warfare and the Legitimation of Lethal State Force”. The thesis contended that the anti-spectacular ‘bureaucratic’ and ‘mundane’ nature of drone warfare and drone visuality generates a state of distracted attentiveness in the public of spectator-subjects, which establishes a negative rather than positive legitimacy for use of state force.
- Examiners: Professor Desmond Manderson (Australian National University) and Professor Diamond Ashiagbor
- Kent Law School supervisors: Dr Connal Parsley, Dr Sara Kendall and Professor Amanda Perry-Kessaris,
Philemon Iko-Ojo Omede
