Barrister Oliver Saxby QC will give a guest lecture about life at the criminal bar to students on Kent’s Canterbury campus on Thursday 1 October.
The lecture is the first in a range of events to be organised for students by the Kent Law Clinic at Kent Law School.
This first event has been organised by the Law Clinic’s Criminal Justice Project team. Law Clinic Solicitor Lucy Welsh said: ‘Oliver Saxby QC is a very able and experienced barrister based at 6 Pump Court who has participated in a number of high profile, complex cases. He’ll be talking about what it’s like to be a barrister in criminal law, the rewards and challenges of the job. He is sure to have some interesting tales to tell!’
All are welcome to attend the lecture which will be held in the Eliot Lyons seminar room at 6.30pm. A meet and greet gathering will be held in Mungos following the talk, giving attendees an opportunity to meet other students, members of staff at Kent Law Clinic and some of the Law Clinic’s volunteer legal advisers.
Other events planned by the Law Clinic this year range from further guest speaker events to pub quizzes.
Earlier this month, the Criminal Justice Project (CJP) team began offering free prison law advice to prisoners in the local community. The CJP is a staff and student initiative in the Kent Law Clinic, comprising a supervising clinic solicitor, solicitor’s assistant, student directors and a number of team leaders each having a team of students.
