BA (Hons) Architecture Programme Director, Dr Manolo Guerci, will be giving the keynote presentation at the ‘Work, Rest and Power: Architecture, Space and Political Life, 1500 – 1815‘ online workshop hosted by the University of York on 27 May. The team behind the online workshop share, “The workshop will explore the role of the home in politics and political life, taking a broad view to explore the lived space of political figures, materiality, and the role of women and the household.”
Dr Guerci’s keynote presentation is titled, ‘No rest, a great deal of work, and certainly much power within London’s ‘Golden Mile’: The Strand as the locus of Whitehall’s satellites of architectural conspicuous consumption in the Tudor and Jacobean period.’
Dr Manolo Guerci is also delighted to announce the publication date of his new book: London’s ‘Golden Mile’. Great Houses of the Strand: 1550-1650. The book will be published by Yale Books on 28 September 2021. Dr Guerci shares, “This is the culmination of an extensive period of research whereby I was able to bring back to scholarly attention and, one could say, to life, one of the most important chapters in the history of London, as key to its architectural, artistic and urban development as to that of British architecture more broadly.”
