Vice Chancellor’s Cup highlights: Garden Games

The penultimate event of the VC's Cup was a blast, with 13 out of our 15 teams showing up for the Garden Games!

These games aren’t just your ordinary outdoor activities—they’re classic games with roots that stretch back centuries and have been enjoyed by cultures all around the world.

Day 1: Let the Games Begin!

The first day kicked off with four fantastic games: Petanque, Molkky, Ladder Golf, and Giant Jenga. Here’s a quick rundown of the action:

  • Petanque: Straight from France, teams aimed their boules to get as close as possible to “the jack.” The closer you are, the more points you score!
  • Molkky: A Finnish favorite, this game is like bowling but with a twist. Knock down numbered pins to score, but be careful—first to 50 wins!
  • Ladder Golf: Toss your bolas onto the ladder rungs to score. Each rung has a different value, so aim wisely! First to 21 takes the win.
  • Giant Jenga: Everyone’s favorite stacking game, but supersized! Teams carefully removed blocks until… crash! The tower came tumbling down.

Shoutout to Campus Sporting Exploits for dominating the day, winning 4 out of 5 matches! Also, hats off to DoNATS and Happy Ravers for their strong performances.

Day 2: More Games, More Fun!

Day 2 brought a fresh batch of games: Cornhole, Bat and Trap, Kubb, and Quoits.

  • Cornhole: An American classic! Toss beanbags onto a board, aiming for the hole. It’s 1 point if it lands on the board, 3 if it goes through!
  • Bat and Trap: This English pub game from Kent is all about precision. Hit the trap to launch the ball and score by hitting it between posts.
  • Kubb: A Swedish strategy game where you knock down your opponent’s wooden blocks before taking down the King Kubb for the win.
  • Quoits: Think of it like horseshoes, but with rope rings! Land your rings on pegs to score big points.

RISistence is Futile took home the win for the day, with U Bunch O’Kents and Marlowe’s Marauders tying for second place. Campus Sporting Exploits, Liquorice All Sports, and Living La Vida Mocha shared third place honors.

With just one event left—the highly anticipated Quiz—it’s anyone’s game. Liquorice All Sports holds a narrow lead, just 1 point ahead of Keepers of the Keys.

Keep up to date with the VC’s Cup leaderboard and stay tuned to see who will take the ultimate VC’s Cup crown!
