With University of Kent Staff flying high at the top of their Recreational Cup group, they took a break from competitive fixtures to play a friendly against student team Darwin College.
Billy Radford returned to the dugout as manager, selecting Ohio to make his debut as centre-back and Callum Richards to make his first start outfield. Against a dynamic Darwin side, the staff team showed their experience and composure on the ball.
Enjoying a great run of goalscoring form, Julien was on the scoresheet yet again. The arrival of coach Dean on the touchline inspired a 20-yard rocket from Sam Beard to complete his double, while Arek also got on the scoresheet. Lee (x2), Luke Sullivan, and Callum Richards can be credited with the assists. At the other end of the pitch, Luke Sullivan epitomised our “dare-to-flair” mentality with a heroic block on the line preventing a certain goal from Darwin.
Overall, in a game played in friendly spirits, the staff put in a hardworking and organised performance. The team now looks forward to their final Recreational Cup group game against Weald Hamlet on the 2nd of April.
UEFA B coach candidate Dean Gonsalves is hosting training sessions on Thursday evening from 5-6pm, as part of Kent Sport’s new ALL Active+ program. This can only help the staff team build on their great run of results!
