Match Report: University of Kent Staff FC 2 – 4 Southeastern Trains
Wednesday, 19th February 2025, 6PM KO
After recording four consecutive wins in the Recreational Cup, the University of Kent Staff aimed to make it five under the Park Wood floodlights.
Having faced them in the group stages of last year’s Recreational Cup, Southeastern Trains were familiar opponents to Kent. On that occasion Kent cruised to a comfortable 2-0 win, but this time round posed a tougher challenge.
The management team opted for their trusted 4-2-3-1 formation with wide midfielders James Thompson and Julien providing support for lone frontman Lee Wilson. A congratulations must go to Callum who was selected to make his debut in goal for the team.
On a cold Wednesday evening, Kent fought hard in the opening stages against a spirited Southeastern Trains side. In an end-to-end match, goal machine Julien scored a brace to level the game at 2-2. Midfield duo James Blackwell and Sam Beard can be credited with the assists, having shown great vision from midfield.
In the second half Kent pushed forward in search of a winner, but their hopes of making it five wins in a row were derailed as Southeastern trains scored twice in the latter stages.
Despite the defeat, Kent showed great spirit and will aim get their season back on track in their next Recreational Cup group match against Weald Hamlet.
