Kent Sport takes on Green Impact

Over previous years, Kent Sport has taken the initiative to provide a better, more economical way of working through the Green Impact scheme. This year we already had a great foundation to work with due to several staff members promoting sustainable transport, taking part in community engagement activities and charity fundraisers.

In order to bump up our efforts, we mainly focused on reducing the amount of personal bins which encourages a more efficient way of disposing rubbish and really pushing for recycling. We encouraged all staff members to complete the online Biodiversity training and used stickers and posters to help staff members become aware of how we can create a greener working environment.

IMG_4183At the recent Green Impact awards ceremony, our efforts were rewarded by Kent Sport receiving ‘silver’ recognition from the University of Kent’s Green Impact team.

But it wasn’t just Kent Sport on the bandwagon to a more sustainable future, the entire University was involved with most departments/schools taking action to shrink their carbon footprint.

From allotments in undeveloped land to butterfly and bird gardens outside school buildings to artistic creations using only recyclable materials, the Green Impact scheme has helped teams think outside of the box.

The road doesn’t stop here. We will continue our green impact efforts and look forward to helping the University develop ideas and move towards a better future.
