Kent Sport is sponsoring Canterbury Ladies Hockey Club this season and we are extremely excited to see them play in the EuroHockey Club Champions Cup in Bilthoven (NED) 3-6 April 2015. Canterbury qualified for this fantastic opportunity after winning the Women’s Premier League in March. The ladies played a total of 18 games and had a very impressive 14 wins 2 draws and 2 loses. Nikki Kidd a Scottish midfielder scored a total of 12 goals making her the third highest goal scorer in the league. The qualified teams are hosts SCHC, HC’s Hertogenbosch also from the Netherlands, Canterbury and Surbiton (ENG), Rot-Weiss Koln (GER) Club De Camp (ESP) University of College Dublin (IRL) and CSP Izmailovo (RUS). The games will be formatted as a knockout tournament with each team playing three matches over the weekend.
Canterbury Ladies have a very talented and diverse team who are already looking very promising this current season. In addition Kent Sport Physiotherapy Clinic is providing physiotherapy to the Ladies 1st Team on Thursday evenings at Polo Farm Sports Club.
Captain Grace Balsdon of the Canterbury Ladies Hockey Team is currently part of the Great Britain team along with Susannah Townsend who recently played in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, where England finished in second place. Dirkie Chamberlain a forward from South Africa also represented her country playing in this tournament finishing fourth along with Nikki Lloyd representing Scotland finishing sixth. Both Balsdon and Eliza Brett represented England U21’s over ths summer in the Junior EuroHockey Championships finishing third. The girls have a lot of young talent and privileged enough to play alongside South African triple Olympian Jen Wilson and British double Olympian Mel Clewlow.
