Sports scholars from the University were congratulated for their outstanding achievements at a special event held at the Pavilion on the Canterbury campus on 13 May.
Twenty-three talented young sportsmen and women were congratulated as part of theKent Sport Scholarship scheme, which recognises and supports students who have competed at county, regional or international level and are committed to university sport.
The students come from various sporting backgrounds and cover 21 different sports. Among their achievements are: selection for Kent County Cricket’s 1st team and England under 19’s team captain (Adam Ball); selection for England men’s trampolining squad (Liam Abrahams); England Universities Football captain (Chris Kinnear); University of Kent Tennis Sportswoman of the year 2014 (Teele Annus); and selection in the GB Universities team for Ten Pin Bowling (Hannah Bratton-Smith).
Mel Clewlow, Sports Development Manager at the University, said: ‘Our sports scholars are prime examples of how commitment, dedication and hard work can help achieve fantastic results. Kent Sport is delighted to be able to recognise them for their achievements during the 2014 scholarship year and we are proud to have played a part in their sporting careers.’
A special ‘Scholar of the year award’ was also presented to Christian Skogeby, who received his scholarship for karate in 2013 and showed first class commitment during his university career.
