Kent Sport is getting a major upgrade

A significant investment to transform our fitness spaces

We’ve got some exciting news to share – Kent Sport is getting a major refresh to its fitness suites this September!

We know how important our fitness facilities are to our members, whether you’re here to train, keep active, support your wellbeing or simply make exercise part of your routine. That’s why we’re investing significantly this summer in our gym and fitness spaces, putting your experience at the heart of the refurbishment.

We’re very close now to the start of the serious work of extracting the existing equipment and preparing the spaces for the new equipment so we’re advising members of the short-term closure of the gym and fitness spaces to support this upgrade.

When will the work start?
While we’ve already started some initial work, the planned Fitness Suite upgrade will happen over 10 days starting on Friday 11 September. The gym will therefore close on Friday 11 September with the last day of building work on Sunday 20 September.

When will the new Fitness Suite open?
Monday 21 September 2026! You’ll be able to access the brand-new gym and fitness equipment from 7am.

Can I see what the gym might look like?
Of course! We’re delighted to be able to share the Technogym interior designs for our refreshed gym and fitness spaces.

Please note that while the gym equipment has been agreed and should be installed by 21 September, the design features and wall graphics will happen over the next 12 months.

Will I be able to access Kent Sport facilities during the gym closure?
Yes, our indoor sports facilities and studio will be unaffected by the gym closure throughout. Some clinical programmes, such as the Menopause course, will take place in the studio while the gym upgrade takes place. Our team are already contacting members directly to advise of changes to specific session locations.

The Kent Sports Clinic will close on Monday 14 September through to Sunday 20 September while the works take place.

Please note that all Kent Sport facilities will be closed on Friday 18 September for an all-staff training day.

Is the timeline likely to change?
While we’re hopeful that this timeline allows enough time to remove, prepare, and install the new equipment, we are working with several contractors and so some details may change. We’ll keep you updated via our website, social media, and other communication platforms if the details change.

So, what can you expect?
The building works across all three gym and fitness spaces is in preparation for the installation of a full range of new cardiovascular, resistance and free-weight equipment, alongside a complete refresh of the design and look of the spaces.
The aim? To create fitness spaces that better support our members and their goals, and give you an even better place to train, move and look after your wellbeing.

The Studio will also feature 16 new stationary Group Exercise Cycles, allowing us to introduce interactive Technogym Ride classes to the Autumn Term timetable.

Why are we doing this work?
Our gym and fitness spaces have been working hard for our members, and we know they’ve been pushed to their limits. This significant refurbishment is an exciting opportunity to give these spaces the upgrade they deserve, creating a refreshed environment with new gym equipment, improved fitness facilities and enhanced services for you to enjoy.

We’re also pleased to confirm our new partnership with Technogym, a global leader in fitness and wellness technology. Technogym will help us transform our fitness spaces and Studio classes, bringing together state-of-the-art equipment, training services and digital experiences to create an even better experience for our members.

This is just the beginning…
Over the next 12 months Kent Sport, together with Technogym, will be bringing life to the space with new visuals and design features. Watch this space!
Thank you for being part of Kent Sport – we’re investing in the spaces you use because you’re at the heart of what we do.
