Kent Sport is proud to be supporting the School of History in a unique commemorative event to twin Kent Sports football pitches with the Flanders Peace Field in Belgium. Join us at the Pavilion on the University of Kent Canterbury campus, 10am – 4pm on Friday 30 November.
As part of a day of activities a team of staff footballers will kick off at midday in memory of the legendary ‘Christmas Truce Football Match’ which took place during the First World War over 100 years ago. The football game is part of a full programme of activities that includes guest lectures and the launch of the Peace Ride Cycle Challenge in March 2019. The Peace Ride will see riders leave the University of Kent early on Saturday 23 March 2019 and ride as part of team to the Kent Coast before a short rest travelling across the channel before getting back in the saddle to ride to the Menin Gate Memorial in Ypres, Belgium. The fully supported ride includes all travel logistics, accommodation as well as an invitation to the Peace Village dinner and celebrations on Saturday evening. Riders will return on Sunday 24 March by supported transport back to the University having made a significant contribution to the charities cause. The University of Kent is looking to find up to 10 Peace Riders who are happy to raise the £300 entry fee to cover the cost to partake but also commit to raise a further £800 which will support the charity’s projects.
